    My Other Reviews·AT&T Yahoo
I had DSL from SBC/ATT. TV was with Time Warner digital cable (big problem with signal quality and tiling). Phone was the old system.

    I ordered the 10 mbs dwn / 1.5 mbs up Internet - $45

Phone is $30, unlimited calling in US & Canada

    I ordered U200 plus HD, 2TVs - $74

Install was Okay. Ran into a splitter in the wall problem that needed rewiring of the coax cable. It took about 5 hours.

The gateway is a Motorola 3800HGV-B that handles all the phones, Internet, wireless, and TVs.

One problem that showed up with the up stairs TV was the HDMI cable. It turns out that the set top box is not compatible with HDMI cable even though it has HDMI output. The problem was not receiving a signal from the Uverse set top box, randomly. Replaced that with component cables. Everything works fine now.

Everything, TVs, Internet, phone is working fine. 6 days so far.

The digital TV picture quality is much better than Time Warner. The HD picture is equal to Time Warner. The menu system and guide is much better than Time Warner. Channel changing is much faster.

One thing I did find out is there is a delay on dialing a phone number and getting a ringing. It could take as long as 10 seconds. This problem is over come with adding a pound sign # after dialing the number. It is like speed dialing.

    Edit: added ratings

    Update 04/05/2009

I posted my question about tiling on the U-verse forum and a tier 2 tech named Matt fielded the problem and ordered out a service call. I was getting thousands of corrected block errors every 15 minutes. The problem was significantly reduced by replacing the diplexer and the balun (NID?).

I have been running now since Wednesday 04/01/2009 with very little tiling occurrence.

    LD Dialing

That is interesting about the # sign after dialing a LD number affecting U-verse too. That is what we have been doing on our phone service here on Powellink once we figured it out - it cuts the call termination time down by about 10 seconds.

    Re: LD Dialing

Forgot I posted this. Our telco has since changed a couple things on their end and now the # key doesn't need to be pressed to complete the call faster. A LD call is just as fast as dialing a local call now.

Not sure if that is something AT&T can change or not...

    U-verse

Thank you for your review. I am in Vista on Carlsbad's TWC and have been having nothing but problems for the past two months with signal and tiling-even on one tv with no box. I just ordered Uverse the other day and they are coming next week to install.

I went for several weeks with U-verse before I saw any tiling. The tiling is minor compared to TWC. However, it is there and it usually occurs on the weekends for some reason.

I wonder if it is related to the traffic volume on the area hub?

So did your install go? Do you like U-verse? Any problems?

    HDMI Issue

The issue with HDMI is not technically with the STBs, though with most of the HD Tv manufactures, using custom HDMI setups not conforming to standards. The ATT STBs conform directly with HDMI standards, no extra fancy or custom features. This causes problems with $1k-$2k plasma/lcd makers which try to make their HDMI "better" by not conforming to standards. It is unfortunate that ATT generally gets the blame for this.
