This was a long time coming. AT&T announced U-Verse service in my home city of Danbury at the beginning of 2007, and I immediately called to get hooked up. After paying $54 a month for basic non-digital cable, and shelling out some 77 a month for Speakeasy (I had 1.5/384 service with 4 static IPs), this seemed like a no-brainer to me. I was originally told that I could get 8 static IPs for $15 total, but this turned out not to be true. That affected my decision a little, but not much--the idea of getting the TV package was too worth it. Because they mis-entered my address as Bethel instead of Danbury, I had a hell of a time qualifying my address. To their benefit, customer service was fantastic. They were almost all very pleasant, and called me back several times to give me updates. To not fault of the CSRs, the U-Verse address database was just flat out screwed up. After 2-3 months of fighting about this, they finally did a site survey of my home to find that I was not eligible for service, and that I should call back in 4-6 weeks. Sure enough, in that time span, one of their reps called ME, and qualified me. I went for the U400 TV package with 6/1.5 Internet service. Truck rolled out to my house on April 27, and he was all ready to do the install. Unfortunately no one told him that the same day, they had to move a bunch of VRADs, so my entire morning was wasted, and they had to reschedule. They did reschedule to May 1. They did a thorough job--rewired ALL the coax in my house and gave me a brand new drop from the pole.
Service is for the most part okay, but sometimes iffy. A few times my connection gets very fuzzy, and TV starts breaking up, along with Internet service. Twice Ive rebooted my gateway, and that seemed to fix it for awhile. For the most part, Im happy, though. I think I got a good deal. On a scale of 1-10, I give the actual implementation a 7.5, with optimism that it will get better.
