    My Other Reviews·High Speed Texas
Well first things first, this as compared to wildblue has been a complete dream. The order process for sat. was so screwy that the order never came in and it had to be cancelled so I just stuck with dialup.

I choose sprint mobile broadband for 2 reasons.

1.availability--It is available to me in the sticks with no added extras to work besides the pci card I installed.

2.company discounts--future phones and services qualify for discounts through my work Preapproved for 5 add lines (funny I only need 1 )

I went to my local sprint store to see what kind of speeds I might get from this area but they did not have a broadband card installed.. Kinda strange to me but, no biggie. I spoke with the rep, and told them that I had gotten most of the information I needed, I was just curious how well it worked in this area. She kindly explained that the card was 50$ out the door with a rebate making it free.. this I already knew but was listinging to my wife explain something about monthly service. The rep, by the way her name was amy (very very helpful) told my wife that there was no other charges except activation, she then however said she could waive the activation charges if we took the card now. Ok I thought this is going well, as I looked at my wife I told her nah, i'll wait to see what else we can get, knowing of course the answer already nothing.... Amy quickly responded with "we can give you the card for free as well" Ok now even my wife is looking like shes interested. You know you have to convince the wife that you "need" these things.. ok ok shorten things up, When we finally took the deal and walked out the door, i got no activation no cost for pantech px500 card, and a free month of service. not bad for a lunch time stop. Amy provisioned the order and it was off to the local electronics store for a pci card, I choose the pantech over usb for future use on a laptop and just felt the card would work better that usb.. I got home set up the card and software and was up and running.

Next day i get up looking forward to doing some long needed updates, and what happens no service..ok no biggie ill do that when i get home

2 hours later, still no service, WHAT???? call tech support and find out it's a tower upgrade give it 24 hours..Sure enough 24 hours later and evdo rev a is popping on my diag page.

speeds are not where I want them but they are good enough to do what i do

which no is not dl porn

I play americas army and command and conquer online which is nice. pings are 150-200 but very much playable.. Sprint has no FAP that limits the usage, and I would have to bet that with all the windows updates norton updates and 3 game patches over 600 megs that I have hit the gig barrier with no problems. A 600 meg file took just under 2 hours to download, and I know to some of you out there that is unacceptable, but believe me that would have taken weeks on dialupp

i mark value as a 3 of 5 for the simple reason of it being so high as compared to dsl or cable, but again for what you get it is well worth it to me

overall, I am very VERY happy to be done with dialup

all this on a pantech px500 with -78dbm signal on a 2.8 gig computer

thanks sprint keep it up and we will be doing lots of bussiness

    update

    5.20/08

ok so things were ok most of the time, but here in the last couple of weeks, service has completly droped to less than dialup speeds. The latency has more than doubled , and dl/ul have gone outta wack.....not sure if this is a sign of things to come with the new 5gb a month cap, or if they are slowing my speed, i have been getting 85-100% signal with a -76 dbm, but as soon as I start to use the connection, it drops to 60% and -80 to -90.....if this keeps up I am gonna pay the disconnect fee, and find something else

    Sprint mobile

Sprint mobile has 1-2mbit download / 128 upload. I really love the service. If you use the cable, you get the best speeds. However, i noticed on mine if I try to play games using the cable, it crashes my laptop =(. I get side by side errors. I'm guessin the packets get sent funky using the cable. Yet to figure out why it crashes lappy using it... other than maybe those errors. I use bluetooth however.. i get 320 / 124 and got no problem. Strange. Either way, the service comes in handy as it can be used anywhere Sprint has service. I used it on the road my last trip and boy I was glad to have it.....

    Re: Sprint mobile

If you're on an EVDO Revision 0 tower, then yes, you would be limited to around 128 kbps upload. Rev A towers should give you more in the 400+ range. Sprint is still in the process of updating their network to Rev A.
