How many of you have been "sold" higher bandwidth than you actually were
able to achieve? How many of you have had an ISP tell you that you are nnnn
feet from the Central Office and can have 1.1Mb/sec bandwidth? Be careful,
    Verio does these things.

To begin with, I am building a DSL/VPN network of five locations. One is in
Milford, MA. I first contacted SPEEDDSL about connectivity. They responded
that when Bell Atlantic tested the line, the CO was actually much further
away than their software had estimated. All they could offer was 144Kb IDSL.

Since I had run into this with Rhythms at two locations in Hialeah, FL... I
was aware that there was still hope. Since Rhythms uses Netopia routers,
"DSL bonding" would be available. Four 144Kb DSL lines would be bonded to
give me 576Kb of bandwidth. I wanted the same solution in Milford, MA.

SPEEDDSL could not supply the 384KB SDSL bandwidth that we had contracted
for, and told me that... with respect to their COVAD relationship... they
would not be supporting the Netopia router. Although SPEEDDSL was very
courteous and professional, we parted ways since they could not perform for
    us.

Through some digging, I found that COVAD and NorthPoint were in the local
Central Office. I also learned that NorthPoint would support the Netopia
    router and bonding.

My hunt was on for a Milford, MA area ISP... that worked with NorthPoint...
that supported the Netopia router... and that would be supporting DSL
    bonding.

That hunt led me to Verio. Lori Mason is the sales representative I spoke
to. Very willing to sell and promise.

I told her about SPEEDSL. I told her that Bell Atlantic had already been out
and that her estimates were incorrect. I told her why I selected Verio. I
told her that I needed to support bonded 144Kb IDSL. She told me to put the
order in for 784Kb SDSL and see what happens.

It's not easy to find a Verio management contact to report these things. No
phone number on their web site.

I communicated with at faceless/voiceless dslstatus@verio.net address to
find out what was happening in Milford. I communicated back to them that the
problem NorthPoint was having was probably because the distance was too
great for 784Kb SDSL... and that... as I had discussed with their
salesperson (Lori Mason)... 144Kb IDSL was going to have to be the solution.

The response to my comment was as follows:
"Unfortunately, we do not support 144k IDSL service in your area.
You may wish to contact your sales rep for other options.
We apologies for any inconvenience it has caused.

    Thank you
    Verio DSL Provisioning"

The other options: T1, Frame Relay.

"Bait" with DSL, "Switch" to something else.

    Stay away from Verio!
