Today I placed my order for FiOS Quad Bundle 25/15 after much detailed comparison shopping between COX, VZ, DirecTV and Dish. After looking at what each could offer me for what I wanted (fast speeds, crisp pictures, price competitive packages), I kept coming back to FiOS. I had to wait for the build out to complete. There were some delays before they could get started.
I started preparing my house earlier this year when I saw the first trucks stating to pull fiber. I put cabinet fans in my wall entertainment center for the soon to be added VZ gear. Then I started running new Phone/TV/Network homeruns to my garage via the attic to replace the out-dated cables running under my house. I used CAT6 for phone/internet and RG6QS for TV. I terminated everything at a distribution box within 20 feet of my main ground line at my power meter.
I used MyFiosGuy.com to place my order and Steve was a very big help. Anyone on the fence about using his services, then don't fear. I'm the worst person there is that will beat a dead horse before I make a move. Steve was great through it all providing me with answers and explanations on everything.
I will update this post after the first truck roll to pull fiber to the house. I want to have it go through my attic and into my garage so I can have an inside ONT vs. it being outside. I will pull the fiber through the attic to help accomodate the installers. My actual install date is November 13th, so I will update this review for those who may be in the same boat.
Man, I'm so excited to have it on order that I can't even sleep!
EDIT: I have been so busy learning about FiOS and having fun. The MRDVR is so cool, the speeds are flawless and the "wow I didn't know you could do that" are nice added features. I have upgraded DW's STB to an HDDVR and have since added another SD STB for another bedroom. The initial install took approx. 3 hours tops. They ran the fiber through my attic and down to my garage to my distribution panel. The installer and his boss, who came later to bring the HDDVR, spoke very highly of my prep work. The installer was friendly and well trained. I was very impressed. He explained everything and even answered my more techie questions without any sign of frustrations. He kept saying that I made his job so easy that it was his pleasure to provide any value add services I needed. He provisioned the JIONT to ethernet, which I had already ran the cables. I'm still learning the changes from cable with the DVR and IMG. Also the wealth of things you can do online and via your cell will take some time to master. I did forego the wireless option of the quad due to Sprint giving me a great deal through my company.
If you have any questions or are facing a similar installation, then feel free to post and I will do what I can to help.
