The call to set up the installation went smoothly, once I finally got through to a human. Verizon really needs to improve on the wait times customers have to endure when they place an order. There is an option to order FiOS online, but that does not seem to work, and it eventually points you to a toll-free number that must be called. The customer service rep seemed very knowledgeable, and there is a significant amount of steps to go over, especially for a customer that is not already a Verizon phone subscriber. I kept the Verizon POTS service under a different name and account with the TV/Data on another, which was more complicated than most installations would normally have to be.

I dinged the install a bit since the POTS phone line was cut when the fiber was brought to the side of my house in preparation for the installation. To make matters worse, it was a minor battle with Verizon to have somebody come out and repair the damage that they did in a timely manner. They initially were going to make us wait 10 days before they sent someone out, but after waiting hours on hold and researching the options at the Virginia State Corporation Commission, Verizon compromised and came out 5 days later. Again, this entire event seems to indicate that Verizon is skimping on personnel. Long waits on hold and service visits that take a week or longer to set up indicate to me that more people are needed to boost customer support ratings.

Now, the product has been everything I had hoped it would be. All preliminary tests have shown excellent results. Latency and speed have been great and the TV picture quality is dreamy. I had no problems with the ActionTec modem/router. It seems to be a full-featured router with a plethora of expected options. I was using Tomato firmware with a Linksys router and the default firmware of the ActionTec seems to have just as robust a feature set and control. All security tests passed without any issues.

I love it so far. Maybe I will add more to the review after I settle in for a bit and try a few more things.

I have 20/5 internet with Extreme HD package for a bundled price of $79.99. I also opted to get the $30 movie package, which includes every premium movie channel. The HD DVR is free for a year, which is normally $16 each month. My total bill is about $110 without taxes and fees. This is about $70 cheaper than a similar package I had with Comcast.
