"low ping times, rock solid internet connection, delivers promised speeds"
"strange ip routing, strange speed tiers, forced to use crap router, bad contracts"
"it's a 50/50 toss up compared to cablevision but worth it if your other choice is some other cable company"

What other options did you consider for broadband
cablevision aka optonline.net. I was going to go with them but the tv packages and bundle deals that verizon offered seemed better.
What SPEED/package did you order, at what monthly price?
I got the 20mbit down / 5 mbit up package. With bundle pricing it works out to $37.99 a month + tax.
How was the order & install process? I ordered online, the ordering was pretty easy. I scheduled it so that they would install on the day I moved into my apartment.
The install took about 8 to 9 hours. It involved 3 verizon techs and an electrician along with 2 trucks. They installed a brand new ONT in my bedroom closet and had to run a new fiber line into my apartment because the pre-existing one didnt quite work correctly. I dont know why this was the case since I live in an apartment building but at the end of the night everything worked perfectly with the exception of a few hd channels missing on my tv but a few calls to verizon and a threat to cancel got that resolved.
the only thing that sucked was setting up the verizon.net email address, apparently you have to use this stupid verizon cd and install some crap in order to set it up the first time around.
What brand/model was the supplied equipment?
Actiontec MI424-WR. It kind of sucks and is enabled to use easily crackable wep by default. You must use this router because if you have TV and internet those guys at verizon use something called MoCA where everything including the tv guide on the cable boxes feeds off that router. It's complicated and I dont feel like explaining it now.
There are ways to turn it into a bridge but i've been too lazy to set it up.
What are your thoughts?
I used to have Cablevision's Optonline Boost service. I had 30mbps down and 5 mbps up for about $65 a month. I kind of grew used to having a good internet connection with low ping times. What this means is unlike most people who switch to fios from some crap dsl or cable provider............my experience of switching from ool to fios is kind of like.... 'blah, whatever' instead of the 'OMG THIS IS THE BEST EVAR!!@#%111'.
Bottom Line:
If you're stuck with dsl or crap cable then it's worth it to switch for just the internet alone. If you have ool, then it's a toss up. I only wound up getting fios because the tv plan was better and the internet was somewhat similar.
