Converted from Time Warner road runner where I was getting 1.5mbps and now and getting 20mbps (in a perfect world). Time Warner purchased our Adelphia carrier and I dropped from about 5mbps that I was getting from Adelphia down to 1.5 which can drive you crazy when downloading large files. This prompted the switch to fios when it became available in our area.

Still kind of sketchy on installation. Technician was a good guy and did a perfect job of installing but if I was just upgrading from dial up and didn't know too much about computers...well, he volunteered to go across town and get a brochure for me that explained the service but there was no paperwork with the installation which could be awkward for those that are not power users. As for me I would have thrown the brochures away anyhow.

My vonage phone seems to be working MUCH better. The drop outs seem to have vanished. The phone and broadband package offered would save me $10 a month but I will try this out for a while.

The modem is an actiontec made for Verizon, and has wireless capability and four broadband outlets.

Be prepared for quite a bit of equipment. One very large box and two smaller ones. Mine were installed in the basement next to my alarm system and the tech did an excellent job of making it "look clean" Decide where you WANT the equipment to go, now and tell the tech in advance your wishes

If you are considering this move into fios, I suggest that you first clean your computer, defrag it, get rid of the spyware, run a virus check and do a chkdsk /f on your hard disk. You might not even need this speed.
This will also speed up your installation which took me 3 hours. The tech noted that this was the fastest it every went for him because I had the computer cleaned up and prepared.

Quite good for online gamers from the looks of it.

Right now...it looks like it is a pretty good investment if you are paying close to $40 for your broadband now, which we were.

Am looking forward to trying out the fios TV when it hits our area.
