2 weeks ago I phoned Verizon to order Fios Internet (15/2) & TV. Since doing my research I knew I should give them an 8-10 hour window install time to do both TV/Internet. I told them I wanted to do it on a specific day and they had no problem scheduling as such. Install would be done between 8-5. I was a little concerned as some friends of mine had the same installs take place over 3 days because of unforseen problems.
Up to the scheduled date I recieved 3 calls confirming the install date. This I thought was very thorough. 9AM rolls by and no one yet. I figured if someone got there by 10AM we were good (I did tell the rest of my family that we may have guest for dinner that night ) At 9:15 AM I get a call from the tech saying he will be there in 10 MIN. At 9:30 he arrives. A very nice technichian who was also patient. Before they came I scoped everything out and figured out where I wanted them to install the ONT box. I had a nice discovery that morning in there was an existing hole was on the outside wall from out old "off-peak" electric meter that we removed 5 years ago. I told them where to put the ONT thru the outside wall into the house and next to the Main Electrical box. Everything I requested be done was answered with "OK".
He started to do the work and said a second tech would be showing up to do the TV install. Since we had an aeriel drop, I knew that would save time. I was even so bold as to ask them to run a line under my living room for a 3rd TV outlet (no STB) that wasnt on the original order. Never for a second did either tech hesitate.
They were cruising along till they hot a snag around 1:30PM. This is when they couldn't connect the fiber to the hub 2 blocks away. Eventually after 3 hours and several calls to their engineers it was fixed. Both guys were apologetic and I told them not to worry, these things happen. Never did I doubt that everything would work. Finally at 4:30 we checking out the Actiontec Rputer and doing speed tests (I must say coming in at 15700 kbps was quite the nice visual). Then we tested the TV STB's and they were working fine (The guides for the TV's took another hour or so to d/l).
So if it wasnt for the 3 hour hiccup, they would have been done both in 5 hours. Overall I was very please with the entire process - order to complete install.
**UPDATE 5.22.07** - So far the only complaint I have was the horrible pixellation that happened this past weekend (esp Sun 5.20.07 PM). It is my understanding that the entire Tri-State region was impacted as well (PA-NJ-DE). My Internet connection has been stable and FAST. Got all the deivces hooked up to wireless. Smooth sailing so far....
