Update Dec 18/2011 With several desktops, several laptops and two iPads and Motorola Xooms all going at the same time, there is never a change in speed. Time of day or night does not change things the way they do at my neighbors on OptOnline/Cablevision. Those on OOL get congested nodes. That doesn't/can't happen with FiOS. I am thoroughly pleased with Verizon FiOS except for their billing department which makes unauthorized changes each time the customer makes an addition or subtraction in services. It sends you back to an unbundled bill. You call and get it corrected.

The service itself, TRUE Fiber Optic TV, Internet and Landline Telephone is never problematic. The landline phone is crystal clear and keeps us from running up our minutes on the Verizon cellular family plan.

If you have your choice of FiOS or Garbage Cablevision, it's a no brainer, honestly go with FiOS. You'll never go back. No one but Verizon FiOS has true fiber optic steady service with no deviation in speeds and service 24/7. It's at least 100 times faster then Verizon's old DSL and 20 times faster then OOL/ Cablevision's NON fiber optic service (they don't have fiber optic!) I hope my review is helpful.

Update: Aug 03/2010 All is running very well. Speeds are perfect, no outages except for acts of G-d. No problems except billing being impossible as always.

Update April 26, 2009 Another New Actiontec, good for a few days and more problems. Speed tests were normal. It's fine now, I don't know what I did to fix it or what they did. I'm disgusted with tech support and more so with BILLING. Anytime there is a change in service the bill goes back to unbundled. VZ is snippy but it's still a better deal and service than I ever had with Optonline. I had reached under dialup speeds with OOL due to node congestion. I can always go back if I want to but would prefer not to. My Mom's connection is good one day and the next day she can't get online. She was supposed to be able to get FiOS, well the apt building had to PAY OFF VZ to get in with them. Pretty sad eh?

Update: June 21, 2008 New Actiontec and we're back to normal.

Update, May 14, 2008. It's running HORRIBLE. I called, they told me it's the switch in the actiontec router and they were drop shipping a new one . No show almost a week later. :/

Called back, tech was wrong they can't drop ship? They claim they're bringing one tomorrow to hook it up. I'll believe it when I see it.

Every computer is having problems loading internet explorer. Adult children having problems running AIM and Yahoo messenger. TV and phone service are fine.

The wireless computers especially laptops are the ones with the worst problems but even the hardwired PC's are lagging out BAD. Will update when and if they fix it.

I'm wondering if the running of fiber optic from Mahwah to the NYC stock exchange could be affecting this. Guess I might find out tomorrow.

Also, SPAM has increased tremendously in the past 4 months.

Thanks it folks.

Overall very happy, I left OOL for FIOS (for the same reason everyone else has, intermittent outages, major drops in speed on and off and poor tech support, and loads of spam) and pleased with everything so far with FiOS. Mail works well, NO SPAM at all!

Dec/05 Still very consistent speeds 24/7, no outages .. up and download's go smooth as silk and no worries of being capped. I upload a lot more and frequently without stressing over a possible cap, there are none with FiOS. It feels good to have the freedom to do what I want with the bandwidth I'm allowed.

Only 1 piece of spam recently, mail delivery going exceptionally well .. no one is missing my e-mails or vice versa.

Being the first CV customer notified of Boost via e-mail after I left (and posted it on DSL reports so I've followed the subsequent threads) IFand WHEN Boost becomes available in this area I "might" try it, 1st year would cost me the same as FiOS but concerns would be the node being overloaded once again and fear of capping due to uploading to family and friends. I really don't want to have to space out when I upload, I'm spoiled by not having to do that anymore and don't want to hit times of day where my speeds crawl, then get them back in the AM like before.

Overall thumbs up to VZ for this technology, it's helped cause OOL to come up with Boost to compete and will allow us consumers to price and ISP shop, competition never hurt anyone.

I highly recommend FiOS.

May1, 2006 - Upgraded to 20/5 for FREE! Speed test below. Very happy with the service

Oct 2007 On their version of triple play. My true complaint is the billing and bundling issue, TV service is wonderful, cheaper than CV with more channels. Having both gives us a lot of freedom to choose and I choose FiOS not CV, a difference of night and day for me. I am a FiOS customer now, no longer involved with CV at all.

Nov 2007 Still VERY HAPPY except billing. I am still on the 94.99 bunble (TV, internet 20/5 and the LANDLINE not voip phone that's crystal clear off copper and on fiber optic with an 8 hour battery back up) I have noticed my IP number changing more and more often (not that I care, just something I noticed as the moderator of part of a large posting board) Service is great and the triple play is a great deal, billing still SUX and a difficult menu trying to reach a VZ rep. Each time you make a change you have to check your bill (same goes for Verizon Wireless, anything Verizon has horrible billing especially after service changes.) Other than that speeds are the same FAST ones, over 20,600 d/l 4600 upload consistently on the 20/5 free upgrade from 20/2 and the speeds are ALWAYS the same!

It blows away OOL with price, consistency, tech support and even their TV service is awesome, On Demand is free, no charge for the remotes, the 5 boxes I have are about $5 cheaper a month and premium channels are less. If you can get the 94.99 deal for triple play grab it. Of course HBO and Cinemax are bunbled at 19.99, premium movie channels are extras @ 7.99 but everything is cheaper than Cablevision and never an outage. A suggestion is do NOT portal with Yahoo EVER (that they suggest and offer, it's insanely difficult to go back, escalated tech support is needed and normal emails are lost due to Yahoo's Spam Guard.

Other than those issues they ROCK and Cablevision is in for the ride of their lives as this continues to be installed. Even my Mom who is in a mid-rise tower has been offered it so it's not limited to the single family household anymore depending on who owns the multi-family dwellings. People are impatiently waiting for it all over the country and for good reason.
