"Fast now and ready for the future!!!"
"30/5 plan is priced too high. Verizon is a large company and disjointed."

I had FIOS installed mid February 2005. The installation took about a week. Although my install date was set for a Wednesday, they came out on Monday and ran the fiber cable from the street to the back of my house. The tore up some pvc pipe for the sprinklers in the process but I got that fixed the next day be calling the local sprinkler dude. Verizon came out on my install date and attached the fiber to the optical network terminal (ONT). From there, they ran the ethernet cable across my attic to the wall I wanted the connection on. Since it was an exterior wall, we just went outside with the cable then punched a hole through the wall. That was a lot easier than trying to fish the wire down a wall with insulation. The provisioning system had my connection on the wrong PON card so it took until late Friday to actually have everything live. WOW!!! I initially had the 30meg/5meg speeds then changed to 15/2 before the first 30 days was up. Since the first 30 is free, I figured I might as well take advantage.
The first week in May 2005 I switched to the Static business 15/2 plan. It was a bit of a hassle since the provisioning systems for residential and business don't talk to each other. This means to accomplish a change of this type, you cancel residential and add the business service. I have a one year contract that goes month to month in May 2006. I currently pay $99 for the 15/2 static ip plan. It is a dream come true. Perfect for my needs. I can run any type of server I want an not worry about the residential limitations. We moved our domains, hosted email and websites to my house and have been running our own boxes ever since. It has been extremely reliable and fast.
The only downside to using Verizon is they are a large company and it's hard to get changes accomplished sometimes. If you need a DNS change or something, be patient. Getting to the right group can be a challenge since the phone jockeys don't always know how to handle requests they don't understand. The other hard part is there is no unified view of the customer. I have Verizon VoiceWing (VOIP), Verizon Business FIOS and Verizon Wireless BroadbandAccess. You cannot call a single number and there is no such thing as unified billing at the moment. Heck, most of the time they still think I'm a residential FIOS customer and I've been a "business customer for five months (as of today).
Still, I wouldn't trade my FIOS for the world and can't wait to get FIOS TV!!!
[12-5-2007 update] Coming up on my three year anniversary with FIOS. FIOS rocks. I dropped the static plan earlier this year and use the residential plan now with FIOS TV. The FIOS TV HD DVR sucks so I turned it in and use a real DVR... TiVo Series 3.
