    My Other Reviews·Bell Sympatico
I used to have Bell Sympatico for over an year but I left them for reason which can be found on my Bell review. I was recommended teksavvy by a couple of the people on this website. I ordered the service and once my 30 day period to cancel was over, I got connected without a hitch. The only problem was I had put a password to access my router and forgot that (OOPS). One quick call and within 45 seconds after dialing their number I was connected to the tech support guy. Now thats what I consider fast service. He told me how to reset my modem and also guided me through the process of setting up my connection and I was up an running in a minute. I then tried to connect it to my wireless router but I forgot the password to that also (OOPS) and had to call up linksys and once that was done I had the internet I wanted. My connection wasn't too stable and I used to get disconnected for a minute at a time every 10-15 min, so I called the help desk and a guy named George, I think, said since my line from the splitter to the modem was 50 feet long it could cause line degradation. I then replaced the line with a 8 feet long wire and got a 50 feet long network cable and I am having a more stable connection and fewer disconnections. Also the people from the company can be found lurking around this forum and will help u if u need and as an example of their service , one of their agents left a comment asking for my username to see why my line could be disconnecting, I haven't even finished with this review and he has already replied. A brilliant service overall but a shaky connection stability (For now).

UPDATE: - Connection reliability has improved vastly & I signed up for Teksavvy phone. and that hasn't had a single problem yet

    Your Review

    Hello Arghoslent,

I'd like to take a look at your connection. Would it be possible to post your username as well as any other important information regarding your connection stability so we can take a look into it for you?

    Regards,

    Rick

Line Stats I just pulled Now:

    UpStream DownStream
    Speed 640 1984
    RCO% 63 89
    SNR 17.0 13.0
    Attn 35.0 57.0

Line Stats I pulled on Thurs:

    UpStream DownStream
    Speed 640 2496
    RCO % 64 63
    SNR 17.0 15.0
    Attn 35.0 57.0

As you can see, the speed is indeed dropping as the modem tries to handle a stable connection

What type of modem are you using? How long is the phone cable? Are all phones, alarm systems, satellite systems (if it uses the phone line for pay-per-view and is plugged into it) filtered? Have you tried with a different modem/firmware/phone cable/jack/at the demarc point?

    Regards,

    Rick

What type of modem are you using?
    Speedtouch 516

How long is the phone cable?
9 feet (Network cable to computer is 50 feet)

Are all phones, alarm systems, satellite systems (if it uses the phone line for pay-per-view and is plugged into it) filtered?
Only use one phone in the house and that is filtered.

Have you tried with a different modem/firmware/phone cable/jack/at the demarc point?
No/No/Yes (I swapped my 50 ft phone cable for a shorter 9 ft one and the connection has become a bit more stable)/No (This is the only jack that works in my house, I ruined the rest while I painted the house over the summer)

    Re: Your Review

How many jacks total are we talking here? 2? 3?

I wonder if they're connected in series or paralell....most appartments are series causing what I am about to ask to be impossible but what I'd like to do is disconnect the rotten jacks from the equation (ruling out excess noise being drawn from an open-out)

I'd like you to open a couple of those jacks (pull the plastic cover off of the top and tell me how many wires are connected to the red post and how many to the green.

There should be (in a paralell setup) only 1 wire going to each so 1 green and 1 red, however as I mentioend in most apartment buildings it's a series connection, each jack helps feed the signal to the next in which case you'd have 2 green and 2 red coming off of each jack post....

After this is done, I'd like to confirm continuity, make sure each jack has the same connector on each one, for example:
red to red and green to green on each of the jacks.

Also if you can login to the modem interface after it's been in sync for a couple of hours I'd like to see the error count. IE: »192.168.1.254
    click on "Broadband"
    Click on DSL Connection
    Click on View More
    Click on Details

    Post those stats back here.

After this is done also go to the main speed touch page and it should list a firmware version also post that back here. I'd then like you to flip the modem over and tell me what version the hardware is. If it's a speedtouch v5 it would just say Thomson Speedtouch, if it's a V6 it would say Thomson Speedtouch v6, not sure about the 'i' model or not
