    My Other Reviews·Rogers Hi-Speed
I've been through Rogers and Bell Sympatico for quite some time. I think it was some 6 years ago when I was first on Rogers. They didn't have their DOCSIS modems back then, and my area had latencies of approximately 200-1000ms during peak hours. EVERY day. It was crazy - 100ms was considered a blessing before the traffic piled up. It was then I got fed up and moved over to Bell Sympatico, where things started to get better. Pings always were under 100ms, and I could finally game and surf at high speeds that I was paying for.

I really don't have any grudges against Sympatico as they always provided top speeds to my area. I was with them for 4 years. It was until recently in the Toronto area a slowdown occurred, and pings shot up way above 500ms. This forced me to look into other ISP's, and boy I'm glad I did.

I'm now with Teksavvy - I've been posting on their forums trying to learn a bit about their service, and when I heard that they use the same lines as Bell Sympatico, I didn't really have much to lose since they offered it at a lower price.

Well.. now on to TSI itself... prior to ordering I was speaking to some representatives on the forums at DSLreports... which is always good - constant communication improves the customer/provider relationship substantially. Their online order form was also easy to use, and saved the hassle of calling into their business department.

From the day of ordering to the actual activation of the service, they kept their word and the service was activated right on time - no delays, no excuses. Speeds are similar to Sympatico's as expected. What surprised me is that their tech support even called me to remind me of my billing cycle. I've really never had such an experience.

In the end, all I can say is that TSI really does their job of satisfying customers, and going beyond that to service their customers when in need. This is what a model company should be - active and dedicated to their work. I won't be surprised if the customer base from Rogers and Sympatico moves over to TSI over time... there is just no reason to go back to either ISP considering the excellence TSI offers.

So whether it be for the service, the speeds, or heck, saving money, Teksavvy is the way to go. At least where they offer it!

    Update: May 11, 2009:

There appears to be a trend of increasing latency and bad packet loss at night which starts around 8pm, peaks at 9-10pm, and dies off around 12am. It has happened consistently every day now and I believe it may have to do something with the new housing around my area.

I have currently opened a ticket with TSI but after a lengthy discussion there has been no solution offered. They aren't to blame, as we all know that Bell is usually the guilty one. It's unfortunate that after 7 years of consistent DSL service that it begins to lag like this.

I am in the process of completing a switch to Rogers Cable and discontinuing DSL if the bad lag does not improve by the end the next 1-2 weeks. They only have a 60GB cap compared to the 200GB TSI offers, but for the heck of it, I would rather build tenure with Rogers to obtain discounted rates in the future for their Extreme service. DSL doesn't seem to be going anywhere higher than 7mbps anyways, so the long-term game plan for me is to take the hit of expensive cable for now, and sail smoothly from 6 months thereafter on Extreme at hopefully a negotiated rate.

Signed up with Rogers and unfortunately, plan to discontinue DSL by the end of the next billing cycle. Sucks... sorry Teksavvy!

Of course I'll return if perhaps the DSL gets better, and hopefully ADSL2+ will be available by then

    Lag time

Could it be that the DPI equipment is doing something weird in your area ? I would bug DeadPool and see if he can look from Bell's end.

The timing just seems too coincidental.

    Re: Lag time

Hmm I discussed this with the TSI reps, since I don't know who Deadpool is, but they didn't follow up on it. Ah well!

    DOCSIS

If Rogers didn't have DOCSIS 6 years ago what were they using? DOCSIS has been out that long and it was 1.0!
