I canceled Vonage during the first 30 days at my business because they just couldn't get things with my number transfer right. I switched there to Lingo though I do wish I had let the Vonage thing run it's course.
I canceled Cincinnati Bell locally at home because for 2 phone lines and Zoomtown I was paying over $160 a month. I started off going without home phone because of my number transfer issues and using just cell phones but that wasn't really working for me.
On a whim at Wal-Mart I saw a Linksys PAP-2 router new for $10 and bought it. I am happy that I did. Plugged it in to my router at home, activated online and about 2 minutes later I was making phone calls. Added a second line and done in under 15 minutes.
The call quality is OUTSTANDING! It is miles ahead of what Cincinnati Bell gave me. Every feature under the sun including long distance and only $43 (2 lines) compared to Cincinnati Bell at $120 (2 lines) with no long distance. The one thing that it does that Cincinnati Bell never did was email me my voicemails.
BEFORE: Cincinnati Bell $163 for 2 phone lines and Zoomtown.
AFTER: Insight 10.0: $40 Vonage 2 lines: $43 Total: $83
Saving $80 a month and getting to tell Cincinnati Bell to go screw? PRICELESS!
It certainly goes much smoother when you aren't porting a number. I almost wish I still had the same home phone number as I had it for 15 years but easy come, easy go. I am learning to love Lingo at my business and I certainly love Vonage at home.
I can read and have seen most everything about their stock price and lawsuit worries. I am betting that in the end all will be fine. I don't know if that means Vonage as they are today or after a buyout/merger/Chapter 11, but I think that they will be here for the long term.
EDIT 8/16/07: OK, gonna mix the review here a little bit. I am still loving Vonage at my home, but I just dropped Lingo and went right back to Vonage at my business. There service has been top notch. I am ashamed of myself for not giving them more of a chance the first time around. After having just returned to them I get a call today from someone in Vonage support wanting to make sure that I am up and running. I have begun to slowly tick the support rating up.
EDIT 11/20/07: 4 months with Vonage and all is perfect. Call quality is STILL outstanding and there hasn't been a single problem with service. I am finding even more value in the money that I give them because of Simul-Ring and Vonage Talk. Both have saved me on a number of times with my own doctor and for my vet.
I also did have the opportunity to call support over a couple of questions that I had and spent short times on hold and got the answers that I wanted. Because of these reasons I am adjusting my ratings for support and value up while taking their website down a notch. Seems that now the activity page of the dashboard no longer supports Firefox.
