    My Other Reviews·Junction Broadband
I ordered Vonage after a neighbor suggested it, and I had seen the commercials on the tv. The box came and it was easy to install. My first few calls were okay I could hear the other person just fine but they said I was hard to hear.

So I called the tech support and waited on the line for 40 or so minutes before I got someone. They told me to go in, on my laptop and change the bandwith saver, so I did. A couple calls after that were okay, but then the same problem happed. After a while the calls on my side were getting bad too so I called again. They told me to call Cox and see if I had enough bandwith.

Cox said that they provide enough bandwith and that Vonage should investigate. Called again, and waited. Ended up being fedup with the service and canceled.

Overall, horrible service and I won't be referring anyone to Vonage.

    Vonage

its not really the vonage service, nor your ISP. more than likey it is you, and your setup. my suggestion is to have the following setup (especially if you have multiple computers)

    cable modem
    |
    |
    Router------------------------Switch--------------Server
    | |
    | |
    Vonage Device |------------------
    | |

    Computer A Computer B

what might be happening is you are downloading, using p2p, accessing other network resouces locally and the bandwidth is being consumed by those devices because they can take it. the vonage device only needs between 30 and 90kbs there for it is the low man on the totem pole. putting the switch in will help direct network traffic to where it needs to go, versus having a hub the data sits there and goes to everything. if everyhting is directly connected to the router, it has to deal with all the data and will get collions and cross talk. i have had vonage for 4 years now and so far, not 1 issue as far as their service is concerned. and i have a fairly large network in place for a home user (5 computers, 1 server, 3 laptops, 2 with docking stations as well as all 3 being wireless)i can sit there and move multiple gb files across the network or download stuff from the internet and still have excilant voice clairity. i would highly recomend that setup and give vonage another shot, or borrow your neighbors box and goof around on the phone for a little bit. vonage does save you lots of money especially if you make lots of long distance phone calls.

And, why can't Vonage say the same stuff you did?

    hmmm

Because maybe, just maybe did you cooperate with Tech support? Or maybe you probably didn't want to talk to "those indians" which is what the tech support gets there all day.

    Vonage is terrible

Thank God I dont have that crap anymore, voip only works well in a lan type environment, over the net its too unreliable. You cannot truthfully say you haven't heard jitter or echo's if you've used vonage for more than a month, its certainly not worth its price.

    Watch your bandwidth

The only time I have ever experienced these problems is when, as crotech See Profile said, I run P2P programs or torrents. Thus, I run P2P/torrents at night when I sleep, kill them in the morn, my Vonage works perfectly fine for me... over my 3-mile fixed wireless internet connection... which is supposed to have too much latency to run VoIP... hmmm
