    Update (2/8/07):

Back in January someone from Vonage called to offer me a second phoneline for one month for no charge. I decided to try it out for my fax line to see how I liked it. I made it a point to ask if I needed to CALL TO CANCEL the promotional line. I was told several times that I did NOT need to call if after 1 month to cancel it. The line would just go away unless I called to KEEP IT. My bill for this month comes and the line is still on there. On top of that, they charged the full $24.99, not the usual $10 for an additional line.

So I called customer service and got a peon on the phone going through a painstaking script of tech support hell, constantly repeating everything I say ("OK Andrew just to verify you are having the following issues:..."). Finally, after repeating my situation 3 times and hearing it read back to me 3 times and confirming it 3 times, I get transfered to a lady who finally cancels the line and gives me a refund for this month... but not before trying to charge me a $39.99 disconnect fee. I told her she HAD to be kidding me and she quickly refunded that as well.

The service is excellent (call quality, reliability, features, and price) but the customer service is BAD.

    INITIAL REVIEW (11/13/06):

I have Vonage at my office for $49.99 and it is great so I decided to get Vonage for my home recently after my ISP upgraded my upstream bandwidth to a comfortable level. I call many of my clients from home, most of them are not local or reside in the UK, so since Vonage includes the UK and Canada into my unlimited minutes, the service pays for itself. My ISP has a VoIP program but it does not have nearly enough features to make me pay $10 more a month for it.

I really like the feature to add a virtual phone number in any area code so my family can call that number locally but reach me long distance and not be charged for it. I also like that any voicemail I receive is EMAILED to me in .wav format so I can hear it without calling in. I can also keep it as a permanent record. There are just a ridiculous number of features that make the $24/month price such a huge value.

Installation was extremely easy, but I wish I would have opted for something other than the D-Link VTA adapter. The website has limited details and photos of the hardware. I also wanted to get the Vonage Soft-Phone to have a phone on my laptop since I travel so much but it is another fee that I will wait until I can see a return-on-investment. Technically I can take the D-Link router with me but it would be easier to just have a second phone on my laptop that has the same number and uses my unlimited minutes I already pay for.

Anywho, it's a feature-rich service that pays for itself if you use a lot of long distance and international calling.

I couldn't be happier. I signed up in Texas with Texas area code, had the start up kit sent to Kansas, set up quick and painless, used extensively for 30 days in Kansas, moved to Texas and set it up again as closed circuit using existing telephone jacks in my new home. No problems after 60 days. Voice mail works great.
