Vonage is Great, it puts POTS to Shame! I was spending over $120 per month with my POTS provider and DSL service (2 Phone Lines). I am now spending only $75 for Cable Internet and Vonage! My Internet is Much Faster Now Also! I am so Happy!
I wasn't able to port my number since I was on a local telephone cooperative, the new number they initially gave me was long distance, so I had to call in and they gave me another exchange. It is not a recognized exchange, but it is a local call. I also don't like that they don't display my name on Caller ID when I call someone, only the number, but maybe they will change that.
I referred my mother, who was able to port her number from Bellsouth and her Caller ID Works, so I know they can do it!
I enjoy the features, I was browsing their website today and found that Call Transfer is included, I tried it out, and it worked perfectly! Will work great when you have to leave, just transfer the call to your cell phone!
All in all, I am glad I switched, I am saving Lots of money, talking up a storm, and haven't had any major problems. Initially I couldn't receive any calls, but this was cleared up with a router setting, I recommend getting the adapter with the router built in, and putting it in place directly after the modem, BEFORE your existing router then you will have no issues!

| Vonage
There has been lots of fear about loosing Vonage to the retarded law suits over patents that should never have been issues (there was an OPEN STANDARD for VoIP BEFORE any of the patents were issues - this constitutes Prior Art)... But, the best thing you could do is JOIN VONAGE...give them the money they need to fight the Corporate Greed of the Telcos.
I have Vonage. I have had Vonage for about 2 years now. I had NO trouble setting up the service, and my stuff is all behind a hardware firewall. Forwarded some ports, registered my MAC, and I was making calls within 24 hours of receiving my install kit.
Granted, their customer support sux, but what do you expect from a small company struggling for survival. Give them more business, and you will get better customer support.
But in all reality, when was the last time you had GOOD customer support from AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, QWest, or any other telco provider? Last week I waited for 45 minutes to talk to someone about issues with my cell phone...
What I would like to see Vonage do:
Add another phone line at no charge. Second lines usually don't add any real bandwidth...they are used sporadically as fax lines...no real overhead or cost involved.
I would like to see BYOD...
I would like to see free soft phone access...
I would like to see well, a lot of other, small, changes...
Other than that, I have not had any issues with Vonage. It has worked for about 2 years without fail. Call Clarity is good, never dropped, and no other issues...I would say, I am a happy customer.
I would be even happier if Vonage could get this stupid law suit dropped or resolved, without going out of business... | |
