    *** UPDATE 8/10/2006 ***

My parents are still Vonage customers. Service is great, very close to POTS in quality and reliability. Not one single outage to date, and the lean monthly bill continues to put a smile in their faces.

    -----------------------------------------------------

I ordered Vonage phone service for my parents. My parents liked their AT&T service fine, but were sick about the bloated monthly fees. They were skeptical about trying Vonage, but they entrusted my understanding of the technology and its underlying benefits, not to mention the cost savings.

The order was placed on the 18th of October, and the adapter arrived within a week. At the time of placing the order, it was also requested to transfer my parent's existing phone number from AT&T. It was great to learn at this time that Vonage joined the new millenium by switching the LNP process from remitting a fax transmission to filling out a new web form for Letter of Agency. The process was painless and very straight forward.

Personally, I think there is nothing better about customer service than unsolicited status updates. Never had to call or email customer service. I found out whatever I needed to know from the dashboard, and notification emails were sent for every step of the way, including status details of the service order and phone number transfer.

AT&T approved the number transfer on the 25th of October, and Vonage had scheduled the transfer to complete by the 31th. The appointment was kept as stated. I called my parent's old number tonight, and the call went right through. Talk about smooth sailing!

The jury is currently out on reliability. So far there have been no outages, and calls to the temporary virtual phone number went right through every time. My parents are pleased at the comparable call quality, and say they cannot tell the difference between this and the AT&T line.

Vonage has streamlined their processes very well. The service works great, and there have been no issues whatsoever. Getting this was a major step in the right direction.

    Statements match rating!

Good review! Your comments mirror your ratings which is great! So many reviews say one thing and give a rating so low (or high) you would think they were looking at two different items. Hope your parents have continued good luck with Vonage!!

I've seen that before. Those same people need to get laid or need to get a life.

    Frontier hasn't transferred phone #

I signed up with Vonage over 2 months ago, and my local phone carrier, Frontier, has not let my number go yet. I think they want me to give up and retain me as a customer. Vonage has been good to me, giving me credits to my bill and my first month was free anyways. I'm waiting it out, but it really sucks.

The hold-up definitely is Frontier. I realize mileage may vary by person, but the transfer of my parent's number was absolutely super smooth.

You could probably send out a complaint to the FCC about this. ILECs frown upon hate mail forwarded from the FCC, so it's worth a shot.
