My local cable modem service provider (www.mhcable.com) has been heavily advertising VOIP for a year now and I finally decided to take the plunge into VOIP in March 05'. My cable service provider is a reseller for Vonage. The webpage that my cable company gives for account access and support is a Vonage replica (www.mhdigitalvoice.com). I thought I was getting all the same features that a regular vonage subscriber might get but I recently found out that although the webpages look almost exactly alike there are some differences. One of them that I had hoped to use was Click-to-Call.
But I digress, this is not the reason why I canceled my Vonage account. Over the last few months vonage quality and reliability has seriously declined. There have been times when I have gone without my phone for an entire day only to have it work again for a few hours and go out again. These outages have been widely reported on the vonage-forum.com website. However if you try to find out if vonage is having an outage by going to their website it will not inform you unless you log into your account. Why? Because Vonage does not want perspective customers to know how bad their service is.
Other problems that I have had with the quality of service is almost constant echoing, disconnections during phone calls and recently a new problem, all the sudden callers on the other end cannot hear me during mid call. Hanging up and redialing does nothing to resolve this. It has become evident that Vonage is failing horribly.
I've attempted to contact customer support which is a joke because the customer service reps do not care about your situation. There are long hold times, if you email expect to wait days, or weeks to get a response. I'm also not fond of how they outsource their customer service to other countries.
Wake up people, Vonage is the new AOL. Vonage is the VOIP giant that doesn't want people to know there are better alternatives to their service.
