Connected via Comcast HSI using Vonage supplied Moto voice terminal. I backfed my home telephone wiring after disconnecting Qwest incoming land line at the demarc. Voice terminal sits behind router/firewall - port forwarding was simple using instructions supplied by Vonage. Connectivity has been stable, although I have had disconnects, outages, and quality issues. Reasons for going with VOIP were, provide low cost connectivity for satellite receivers, reduce minutes used on cell plan while at home, and let me play with new technology.
My goals have been met: I am happy with the 200 minute plan, the price is excellent, and the calling features are all included. My DirecTiVo satellite receiver required a little playing with to get ot to work over voip, but my HD Sony unit has never had a problem. For me, the low cost and excellent features outweigh the few quality and reliability problems present in the technology.
09/15/07 - DirecTV receivers and alarm system are no longer functioning through Vonage. Cancelling Vonage and Comcast and going to Qwest POTS and DSL.
