    The first modem I received wasn't working so I had to return it for another one. After receiving the second, I had to make sure I opened up the proper ports on my firewall so that calls could be completed. When this was all done, the service seemed to work quite well. From time to time there are problems that cause the modem to be recycled. This is annoying since if someone is trying to call you wouldn't know it. This can be resolved by having the phone forward to another number if incoming calls can't be connected.

    The downside to this type of system is getting all of the phone in the house to be able to use this line. If you have a wireless phone system it will work for all the connected handsets but if you are using any other jacks in the house for fixed handsets or headsets then it poses a bit of a problem. Overall I have been happy with the service and will ultimately get rid of my second POTS line so I will then have one POTS and one Vonage line. I'm not ready to get rid of POTS altogether.

    Update: I no longer use Vonage and have not used it for several years. I also no longer use POTS and have deployed an Asterisk server and use several wholesale providers for VoIP. I've been running this way for a few years now.
