Have had it if for well over a year now, and still love it. My system: - Roadrunner cable rated at 5000 down, 512 up. Tests show that's about right. - Motorola box behind a Linux Smoothwall router (old PC), using its QoS - The ATA is assigned a static IP from the router - No voice breakup even when downloading multi-megabyte files - No voice breakup with file sharing uploads going on
Have had Vonage for just over two years now and still like it. The costs have crept up and the feature list has not, but the reliability has been too good for me to consider another provider. I cannot recall the last outage, seriously, it's been over a year AFAIK.
Another good thing with Vonage: They will forward incoming calls to a number you specify if the network is down. We do have a cell phone as a backup and did test it by unplugging the ATA and call in from another cell. The forwarding worked exactly as advertised. I added a UPS to the head end hardware to ride out a power failure, so that's not an issue.
There have been NO outages for the past ten or so months, not a single one. Reliability is five stars for me, but that does include a very reliable ISP, of course.
Startup was painless and immediate, so what can I say? I am very happy with the service.
Update after three years:
Still have the service, still no problems (can't remember the last outage) but have to wonder about the business. Anyway, so far still so good.
Update 4/08, still using it and it's still good. The ISP's had a few hiccups now and then but altogether it's still a great value. I use the 500 minute plan and probably run 600 or so minutes on it so it's still less expensive than the unlimited -- I'd still buy it all over again.
