Jan/08 Called to cancel again and was offered two months free, turned down the offer and canceled service on the 29th. The billing cycles the next day and I was charged for another month of service. I had to call again to get that month refunded as I should never have been charged for it.
Dec/07 Called to cancel and was offered a lower rate in the interim. They also offered to send me a new MTA as I had complained about problems with the service. I was pretty sure the problems were not the MTA but patronized their attempt to help.
Problem.... they immediately removed the my old MTA from my account basically bricking it for 5 days until the new one arrived. It took three calls to rectify the problem and they put the old MTA back on my account until the new one arrived. I was never told the old MTA was going to be removed and would not have allowed them to do that had I known they were going to do it.
I'm going to cancel soon, this is BS.

7/1/07 Update: Getting more expensive and starting to lose it's value, I going to ditch it as soon as I have VOIP through MetroCast.(I work for them!)

11/29/05 Update: Service has been great. The call quality seems to have improved slightly. I still haven't ever had to call tech support, and the price has gone up =)

I ordered the 500 anytime minutes $14.99 plan. The price was $57 for first month shipping, taxes, and the equipment.
I ordered it on friday 1/30/04 and got the Motorola MTA(VT1005) on the next Monday 2/2/04.(yes 2 days over a weekend, an unbelievable feat for anyone) the newer Motorola MTA is more versatile then the older Cisco MTA. It seems to work slightly better on the outside my router then inside. I do prefer not having to double NAT my network, but may do it for the improved voice quality.
5 for the website. Its just plain awesome, login was simple and account management is very powerful. Advanced features are extremely useful, and listening to voicemail from work over the internet is truly badass.
5 for installation. It was beyond simple with multiple methods to hooking the MTA up.
3 for call quality. This isn't a POTS line and doesn't sound like one to the "picky" ear. Its closer to cell phone quality with less the perfect signal.
4 for reliability. Havent missed a call or had any freaky weird things happen yet. Only had the service for 2 days and used ~45 minutes of time. I might be amending this after further use.
5 tech support. The simple fact that I have not had to call them is worth a 5 in my book. Did the whole thing online and hope I never do have to call them.
5 for value. $14.99 rocks for the features alone, website rocks, number choice rocks. Overall I am very satisfied with the Vonage product.
