    I moved into a new apartment in July and subscribed to AT&T DSL. After a couple of weeks, many of my news: groups disappeared. I emailed their support and was told that AT&T has decided to block all alt.binaries newsgroups from their servers because of child pornography. They blocked 30,000 newgroups because a handful for them might contain child pornography.

    Law enforcement should prosecute child pornographers. AT&T should not be blocking all alt.binary newsgroups. That's what parental filters are for. AT&T should facilitate parents in setting up parental filters, not block 30,000 legitimate and useful newsgroups.

    it's a slippery slope

    you can get access in the hotels in china. i think if at&t decides to be "monitoring" content that they should be held liable for content. perhaps someone should sue them for allowing all of that cracked software on *their* network. i'm pretty sure they'd back off then. seriously though, the newsgroups are "stored" on their drives and I can see why they would want to mitigate any liabilities with that. you can get news from another provider. just my 2 cents.
