Had ATT DSL as SBC Yahoo.
Didn't use the SBC Yahoo Software with new computer build, and oddly enough, connecting to DSL was the easiest part of the software install. I was connected to the net in short time with my settings (none of the junk software necessary).
Apparently DSL doesn't get passed the 3 meg service...in a fairly upscale neighborhood, but the again, this is chicago. Pricing is what it is, approx 35 + phone service and bundled ld. Haven't called to cancel phone service, but last time I tried they tried for 12 bucks to cancel (hence, the ATT/SBC sucks comment).
Bottom Line: Their network has been rock solid for the past 4 years (1 downtime I can recall that wasn't my fault). Support generally sucks (India folks reading off scripts and can't deal with customers with some knowledge). Billing is god, I generally pay every couple months, but prepayment options with discounts would be more customer focused than taxing those of us that don't like to remember to pay each month (or trust a company that won't charge us a flat rate each month per contract without add on fees).
Like I said, this is chicago. Third largest city and the state of competition is rather lame, from a residential customer POV. Nevertheless, T has done pretty good here for DSL.
