UPDATE: on clean routers now and doing good. working the last issues out on te ATT direct forum.
Try the Direct forum and ATT guys here at DSL Reports before giving up if you have a problem. It is not that stuff can't be fixed, it's just getting to those can can fix them. These guys will really help.
UPDATE: 12/31 Lisa and Dion in San Ramon are great. I'm not out of the woods, but I got an open ticket with the Internet side, got the NOC guys to move me to a less exhausted router the other day and i'm doing amost as good as I use to. Still some packet loss and excessive pings with no bandwidth at times, but i'm not totally saturated and can at least check my mail from home without my BlackBerry.. Looking to see how they get the rest of the glitches taken care of. Big thanks for listening to me and getting the problem fixed instead of the denial game everyone has played since August. Mistakes happen, things break, its getting them fixed that matters. Too bad tier2 had been sitting on my tickets for 6 months. People make the difference. Too bad I ordered a Charter feed before I found these guys, hehe.
It says i'm new, but I have been a user since 2000 with a diff account when I use to be in Covad countryin WA, and guess what, I miss Covad. How messed up is that?
Ordered 6mb service, got 2 with 4 open trouble tickets since August. Techs from Internet side let me know since ATT started selling 6mb pipes, all hell has broken loose. Even tech said to try cable.
Techs not familiar with what traceroute is when you call in. People with a clue actually blamed ATT for overselling and apologized.
Escalated to the district manager (Kim) and they still can not get stuff reliable, no matter how much they try, mainly because it is a router issue and a very poorly ran CO. but the techs have cut out all the jacks in my house and busted off my voice service now too. Rock on ATT!
Update: System is out of IP's for PPPoE. Getting added to a sticky (Static) pool they have to stop getting errors from PPPoE server when no ip's are available. Unfortunately wont be fixed till Dec26th They better not try to charge me for needing this due to their mass overselling. I talked to some Internet side techs at ATT and they were not informed of the outtages and spent half the day in front of irritated customers only to find the whole area was down. Look on a map, everyone between merced and stockton go out stockton. Save a buck or two they thought. UPDATE: well they do not have real Static IP's, so the sticky ones go out when PPPoE goes out.
Update: Techs out Saturday to deal with the line issue
Update: Techs out Sunday with now modem since sync still issue on line. Netopia router seems much better at keeping sync than speedstream (yes I know nobody is amazed).
Update: Christmas Eve, nice slow, poorly routed internet. 250ms pings on some routers but I am up. When calling in, Internet side says my sync is causing bad pings (technical not possible as the sync would affect the line being up and all speeds, not just that of certain routers) yet trying from 4 other dsl accounts in town on ATT, i see the same reduculously overloaded routers. I guess tech support can see whats broken from where they are at in India and they see Sync, lol.
151.164.95.237, a router on a block of ip's out of texas is where they are still routing all my stuff through, adds up to 250ms to each hop on traceroutes. From local charter(even through the tipping point), I am 7-15 hops to most sites, with ATT, I am up to 30!@! hops away from some sites, even google. Sometimes 6, sometimes 20 hops.
UPDATE: system wide outage 12/26 again lasting for several hours. Exhausted routers to blame. ETA of 4 hours given till back up.
For some reason the CO is telling other providers anything faster than 1.5 is not available in the area, however they sell up to 6mb (all copper, not fiber) so they are misleading everyone. Open up for competition ATT, anyone from the PUC reading this??

Used to love? When was this? [scratches head]
I've been dealing with telcos since before the 1984 breakup. And as far as I can tell, dealing with telcos is like being saddled with a cheating spouse: you're stuck with them, no matter what, and all you can do it make the best of it and tough it out.

| Hehehe. Your partially right.
This is why I said this...
#1) when I moved in, I ordered a T1. They won't do them in residential anymore (SBC would have not a problem)
2) When they said they would send out a qualified tech. Hate on Pac Bell all you want, they use to have great line guys. Now unless you get a guy left over from Pac Bell, you get a 'contractor' that has trouble with everything and does not know as much as the India based represenative that dispatched.
3) India based support. ATT sends you to India, where you can not understand(it's not the language either, sanjiv spoke with the lady and could not understand her and he is from bombay, its a voip call to a call center likely with a ATT router ), and have to deal with someone with a checklist where they ask you unrelated q's because they don't have dsl and don't care that you don't have service.
ATT makes you miss Pac Bell. Thats how terrible ATT is.
Oh, our whole area (aside from Uverse) was down again last night for several hours with the same bras5-bras7 routers tanking on them as were on Christmas eve and Christmas day. Called in at 8pm past night, after 1 hour on hold, they let me know we were all down and give them till 11:30 (3+hours) since a router was down.
