    My Other Reviews·Shaw
After being tired of paying Time Warner $130 a month decided AT&T 3mb dsl and no TV would be a good way to save money, even if it means having to get a $5.70 a month phone line (which ends up costing about $12). I ordered the phone line and DSL online on a Saturday and the phone line was active on Tuesday. Being a bit busy, I didn't get around to calling AT&T until Friday to see why the order for DSL never went though. The modem came Monday and was active on Tuesday.

If it major pain to have to install the AT&T software just to get a username and password and have them transferred to the modem. The installation process that takes a couple of minutes with cable takes 30 minutes or so with AT&T DSL.

The connection itself works fine so far.

I got AT&T DSL only because I wanted to ditch my $130 Time Warner Cable bill (without any premiums). I would have stuck with my 5Mb/512k internet with them, but they couldn't tell me what my price would be if I cancelled my cable TV so I just cancelled them completely.

AT&T mailed me my modem, and was even able to mail it to my work, since UPS refuses to deliver to my home address. Aside the the over lengthy wizard that comes up when using the internet the first time, and the first installation of software that just has to be removed later, installation was a breeze. I was of course disappointed at the PPP loss that occurs with AT&T DSL, but have learned to adjust my habits and QoS so it works out great.

Definitely though, if I had a higher stable household income I would not choose AT&T DSL because their upload speed is so slow. Sending photos to friends or to upload to Costco for printing, or to upload to an online photo gallery is painful. High speed needs to be at least 1Mb/sec in both directions.

My connection has been solid the whole time I've had it. I always get the same speed, both up and down. The only minor issue I've had is when AT&T hasn't billed me for something, or at all, and then the next month they bill me for whatever they forget the previous month. In the end, I've always been billed the correct amount. The only reason I'll be terminating my account is due to moving out of the country.
