    With COX in Arizona, you need to watch out. Several observations:

    (1) if someone calls and identifies as COX, most of the time they are - they are a sub-contractor;

    (2) COX does not have ANY quality control system over what sub-contractors do and Cox has no published quality standards for anyone to follow or verify;

    (3) COX does not have ANY way of having any specific sub-contractor to come to your home;

    (4) COX will always take sub-contractor's word over yours;

    (5) COX will collect the fees for internet, but if you dispute the fees for wire services (which are under their service contract - therefore should be free) they will turn of your internet and cable;

    (6) COX will violate Fair Credit Billing Act and will challenge you to sue them before even investigating your claims;

    (7) COX will not respond within 60 days as mandated by Federal Law to your billing dispute and will not obey the law mandated prohibition against retaliation.

    (8) Cox subcontractors will damage your home inside and outside and Cox will not take any responsibility for it, but to decided your claim they will ask the sub-contractor if he indeed did do damage and Cox will take sub-contractor's word for it over yours.

    (9) Cox will use sheet metal screws to attach wall plates; and Cox will install wall plates where they please and not where you need them; Cox will make holes in your celling; Cox will not make wall plates aligned neither to vertical nor to horizontal alignment of anything else; Cox will leave the dust, staples and stuff for you to clean up.

    (10) COX will make notes when you call - but the notes will not reflect your orders or complaints.

    (11) attitude of Cox employees is: we do what we want, we know better and sue us if you do not like what we do - apparently the example comes from the top.

    (12) When you call to change service and honestly push the proper selection you will be put into a cue for at lease 15 minutes, and than the representative will say hello only one time before hanging up - you have no chance;

    (13) On June 30, 2008 COX sent the price increase notice effective July 15, 2008 - increasing Basic Cable from $10/mnth to $21/mnth i.e. 110% increase along with a letter only nincompoops would believe.

    COX will never change

    Went to DTV one day ago after being a COX customer since 1996.
    Drop the phone service and now cable TV. The internet is next. I have been paying for the premium hi speed for over 2 years and never got the download speed they claim. I have called so many times to try to work with them but they don't care. I drop down to the next level of service and wow I am getting the same speed. The FCC should step in soon. They are already on comcast case for charging for service speeds that customers never get. If FIOS was here I would be gone yesterday. Consider going to DSL soon.

    Re: COX will never change

    File complaints with FCC.

    If you get ridiculed for doing so, so be it.

    The way these problems get resolved, if ever, is eventual but very slow grind forward by the FCC about specific provider issues. They only know about problems when consumers notify them (though no consumer will immediately get satisfaction, the FCC will *eventually* eek out a correction for others if the complaints merit corrections, so, any consumer with complaints can at least know they've done something constructive by filing a complaint with the FCC if the problems continue unresolved with any utility provider).

    Best of luck. I am wondering today if but what these are the state of conditions for most consumers, nationwide.

    The cable connections are, indeed, not functionally what they're sold as (and for what prices), but, the biggest challenge to consumers if finding alternatives.

    Good luck, anyway, despite the criticisms. Just file a complaint with the FCC.

    I share many if not all your complaints. The biggest insult is not being able to get resolution to these product complaints: if you buy a product as advertised, it's not what you were told you were buying but is labelled as such for the money of what you thought you were buying (and what was advertised), this is a big problem, a huge ethical and contract violation in commerce.

    I started conducting speed tests on my cable over a year ago after living with crawling connections (Cox cable), only to find it was pitifully slow. Continues to be:
