Due to moving into an apartment that had no address, cox had to create one. The people at BBR were instrumental in getting this done. Also, due to the same situation, it took a little longer to get the service up and running. It didn't take an undue amount of time. All appointments were kept.

Cost is a consideration in the long term. There are no contracts, however, the first 3 months is 29.95/mo. then it goes up to around 50.00/mo. This price will increase 5 more dollars in the next month, due to increased speeds. See next paragraph.

The speed is 5.0Mbps/768kbs, which should increase to 10.0Mbps/1.0Mbps in the next month with a 5 dollar increase in price, bringing it to 55.00mo. plus tax and fees. Ping is OK, but not stable all the time.

Distance is always a consideration with dsl, whereas with cable, it's not such a big worry. However, dsl is much less expensive, the speeds and pings are nearly always constant, but again, speed and ping depend on distance and line condition.

Switching location also meant switching providers of services, and switching forums on dslreports. Moving to the cox forum was painless. It took no time at all to get the attention of knowledgeable, reliable people with solid information and the actions to back it up. There were some unusual considerations in getting the services started, and I'm not sure it would have worked out this way if not for the cox forum. I do want to mention that once the order was in process, one tech at cox, contacted by phone, went out of his way to see that the entire process was completed thoroughly, from beginnning to end.

Some things I'm not used to are that this is always on. It means that anyone can walk up to my computer anytime and get online. Also, I know there is some on coxs' end regarding security, which makes me uncomfortable. With dsl, there was no interference whatsoever. As far as cable companies go, cox is better than any other I've dealt with.
