    Update 14 March 2008

Cox Communications is still rockin n' rollin in the Gentilly Woods area. Only a VERY few hiccups here and there, but nothing that hasn't been mentioned in the Cox HSI forum here on BBR. Still a customer on their fastest package!

Normally in the evenings on a weekday night or early mornings I'll hit 16 megs down and 1 meg up. During peak times or middle of the day anywhere between 4 megs - 6 megs down and 1 meg up.

Update 19 March 2008: I have been contacted about the comments below this message and am working with Cox Communications on resolving this issue.

My fiance' who lives down the street from me attempted to order Cox HSI and Cox said there was a problem with her line. One month later the problem was not fixed however she started getting billed by Cox. After three months the billing still had not ceased. After a field tech started calling her from his personal cell phone in the evenings telling her she owed HIM (not Cox) $100.00 for repairing her line I filed a complaint with her university police department and with my city department. I later discovered this had been happening to multiple people and from two separate techs. Cox is no longer allowed "free access" to her campus and has to be escorted by an university police officer.

*** My personal thoughts on this: I think this lay with the field techs themselves and maybe their immediate supervisors and not Cox as a whole, otherwise I would have left the company as a customer. ***

Update 24 August 2007 (One year after last review)

Cox communications is STILL a great ISP choice in the Gentilly area of New Orleans. They have friendly customer support reps, friendlier techs, and fast speeds even in peak hours (see screenshot).

I would buy Cox HSI any day in New Orleans!

Moved into an apartment on New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary campus. Cox (the only ISP on campus) is super fast and has a very stable connection for a post-Katrina city.

    Update:
After getting cox communications, appx two weeks later, I started running into frequent disconnects.
To make a long story short: after 50+ trouble calls and 6 truck rolls over the past 5 months cox communications was still promising me "Great service" but provided nothing but headaches. I switched to Bellsouth (the only other ISP in this area) yesterday.
The final straw was not having connection for 6 days (yesterday was day 6).
Cox may be a great ISP but not on this side of New Orleans.

I had charter, switched to Cox for my house after moving to Jackson Barracks from Slidell.Bought my own modem from Best Buy (Motorola SURFboard 5100) instead of using one of theirs (in the long run it saves money).I did ask the guy that came out to install the service if he could run me a seperate cable line from the pole just for my modem and bedroom TV (which he did free of charge).

    Review of Service:
    FASTEST Premier Package $54.95 month
Motorola SURFboard 5100 Cable Modem w/ Linksys BEFSR41v3 Router
    Dynamic IP
