Living in S. Az has be a real hell 4 HSI service. Qwest has never offered dsl, and wireless hasn't been widely offered here much, so when Cox said that they were coming to my area I jumped in with both feet. ordering was a snap once service was up and running and I was the first on my street to get the service. I had bought my own modem(sb4200) and all I had the tech do on the install was sync-up the system. That 1st day was like living a new life, I was happy to call msn and tell them to drop me 4-life. OH HOW DUMB I WAS. I quickly came to find that Cox was overselling my node when speed dropped from the high 2000/200 to the low 100/150's. After much time spent on the phone and online tech with Cox I had a tech come back out to recheck my lines and system, even bought a new modem (sb5100). Again speeds were up in the high 2000's and then the hex came back. From March 25 till last night speeds back in the low 100's even during off peek hours like 0200 local time. I was all set to take my cable down to the local office and put it somewhere I wont say when today the speeds seam to be back and better than ever. I'm still keeping a close eye on Cox, as they say fool me once shame on you; fool me twice shame on me!!!! If I get fooled again, look out Cox cable cause here I come.

Update: Service has been great in the last month. No down time, speed in the high 28's to 25's and E-mail has made a good step forward. I have gotten some packet loss on some servers at cox lately but have gotten a lot of help from the Cox forum here on bbr, so much thanks to all of them.

Update: Cox has done a lot of work in the area on routing and speeds have been improving. Ping times to servers in sj, ca have dropped to about 30 ms at all times of the day and overall performance has improved. No down time to talk about, but there was some lag on the night of the 25 when cox was installing some new equipment in Phoenix. All in all good service this last month.

Update: 12-15-03: Cox has made many improvements in the quality of the service lately. New speed Tiers are being offered and many of the QOS issues have been solved. The customer service provide to me by the Cox employees who post in the Cox HSI Forum, and the local techs, most notably Ray, has proved that Cox dose care about there customers and is a top quality company. Because of these improvements I have changed Connection Reliability from a 4, to a 5, and Tech Support from a 4 to a 5.

    Update: 5-13-04

Service has been ok for the past few months. Still some hiccups, but over all, ok. I have had the service for one year now, and feel that it has been a good experience overall. Cox is no longer the only true choice for broadband here anymore. Qwest is now offering DSL, and I gave it a try. I found Qwest to be better with page loads, and upload was great, at 500+kb. I decided not to keep it, as the 1500kb download was really slow, and as I do more downloading then up, it was not for me. If Qwest were to offer a higher download, they would get another look from me.

    Update: 08-19-04

Cox recently increased the speed on their packages, and I must say, it is nice. Service has been pretty solid over the past few months, only a few outages. The longest of the outages was from a power failure, and the lack of UPS for Cox's system.

    Update: 01-07-05

Service has been superb over the past 4 months. Only one notable outage, and very little issues related to speed, or quality. The only ding against Cox would be the continuing issues with the Webmail and POP email services. It must be Murphy's Law but now that I need to get to a few of my Cox Email accounts, its been down for the past 3 days... Lets hope that a solution to these email problems can be found soon.

    Update: 09-10-05

I'm now living in VA, and the service is great so far. The install out here took about a week because I ordered the phone service with the HSI and Cable. The installer was here on time, and completed the job quickly. Some minor hiccups getting the phone set up, and then with the cable box dropping the pic, but they look to be fixed.

The HSI service is 4000/512, but should be updated soon to the 5/2000 plan. I got a great deal, 14.95 for the first six months, and a free 5120 modem. That made it easy not getting the higher speed option, coming off the 9000/1000 service I had in AZ.

    Update: 06-21-06

Service has been stellar here in VA. No outage of note, and rock solid speeds and more. By far the best choice for internet service in the area.

    Update: 12-24-2008

Service has been good overall. Speed is within service specs, and powerboost is a nice feature. There have been outages in the past, most due to a Cox contractor not knowing the difference between my house and my neighbors. (Twice a contractor disconected my service by mistake). All and all, I am still pleased with the service.
