I have had Cox High Speed for 10 months now. Ever since May of this year I have had nothing but problems with my connection. I have had my modem replaced in May. In October the techs finally admitted that I have bad lines and they gave me a dedicated drop and new lines. All the other techs that I have had here before that said that my lines were good. My latest speed test shows I have a 43/45 connect and I am paying for a 3000/300 connect. When I last called them and reported that I still have problems they told me that they would not be able to get back out to me until the end of November. I informed them that I would not wait two months for this issue to be resolved since they have not fixed it from the beginning back in May. My connections keep timing out when I try to upload or download anything. Their response was it must be problems with the other persons ISP. I informed them that my time out problems where happening with their news group (joke) servers. Their response was reset the modem and computer. I told them that does not help. I also told them that every time they have me reset my modem it takes a minimum of one hour before it resets. I think I made a mistake by getting all of Cox's digital services....

    October 15th 2002:

Well Cox HSI tech showed up yesterday two times. They replaced my Toshiba modem with a Surfboard modem. My service went from bad to worse.... The Surfboard Modem that they gave me is a used one. And too boot it has been opened up. When I found that out I called their tech support and spoke to a supervisor. I told him what I discovered. He said he was shocked that someting like that could happen (like I believe that). I told them I want a brand new modem in a box with the factory seal. They said they will do that on 10/16/02. With this piece of garbage that they gave my my download speeds dropped to twice of what I had before and my upload speed went to a 56k dial up speed. Now I am really getting pissed and am ready to contact the PUC and FCC and file formal complaints.

    UPDATE: Sept 6, 2003

Well service was good for a while. But now with all of these worms that are running rampent my service has gone down the drain.

    Latest Speed Test:
    2003-09-06 07:38:32 Speed test (ec) 1413/233 kbps

    Before the worms and filters:
    2003-08-26 06:54:07 Speed test (ec) 2581/244 kbps
    2003-08-26 06:53:32 Speed test (dslreports.linkline.com) 2306/244 kbps
    2003-08-26 06:50:30 Speed test (dslreports-west1.speakeas) 2317/253 kbps

And I am paying for 3000/256.

    UPDATE 9/12/03

Well it looks like I have system problems again. I am getting constant disconnect, major lag, and can't even stream online radio stations for more than 2 minutes. I know that my problem is with Cox equipment outside of my house as even my mid band cable TV channels are so bad an fuzzy it is like watching with a TV antenna with poor reception. I have schedualled another service call for next week. And as in the past I know they will give the same bull that there are no problems. If I had another option for cable tv, phone, and internet I would jump on in in a heartbeat and blow Cox into the wind.

    UPDATE 9/26/03

Well service has improved alot. ICPM ping and trace is back and my latency is not near as bad. The tech that came to my house for a trouble call was even nice enough to call back a few days after the service call to if I still noticed any problems.

    UPDATE: 06/12/04

Well the new a/v protection and spam protection is a good plus for them. How ever
I am not happy with what they have been doing to the local home pages. In order to get mine to load. I have to change settings to allow all cookies which I think is a major security flaw in doing that.

    UPDATE: 08/09/04

Well good news.... After the major US planned outage for Cox HSI Internet. I had a major suprise.... A new speed package. I originally started out at 3000/256. And a few months ago I signed up for the 4000/384..... But this morning I reset my modem and box..... Now I have a 5000/768 connect...... Glad to see that Cox is Listning to its members by giving its subscribers a better package for the money.

    UPDATE: 01/03/05

Well I must say that my Cox HSI has become even better. I just recently moved to the boonies and except for a few hiccups things are great. I had to replace my Toshiba PCX2200. I picked up a new Motorola SB5120 from my Cox office. Speeds are excelent with no packet loss that I can tell. And as for online gaming. With the newer modem I have not seen any issues. In fact on one of the online games I play I have been averaging about a 50ms ping average which is alot better than I had with my old modem. So it looks as if Cox is getting better everyday.

    UPDATE: 05/23/05

Well with the news that Verizion FIOS rolling out is a good thing. I don't think Cox is being that aggresive in competing against them. I have heard rumors that they will match speeds only in Markets where FIOS is already in place. If that is the way Cox is going to model their business. Then when FIOS is in my area I will drop Cox and go with FIOS.

    UPDATE: 05/05/07

Well so far so good with my service. Had a few signal level issues that a sub contractor did not identify and correct so they sent a lead tech who corrected some things at my place and found that they needed to ballance the line out.

    UPDATE: 03/29/08

My data connection is still rock solid. Had a few service related outages for my community. But other than that have not had any issues with it. I do have service issue relating to my cable tv service and do have a service tech coming out on Monday to correct that. I think my hd/dvr box is starting to go. I have had it for over 3 years now.
