I moved into this apartment in November 2003, and until November/December 2006, my only option for cable broadband was 1-way service from either Service Electric or RCN. 3mbps down, telephone-line upload. No thanks.

November 2006, I was in my local mall, and I saw an RCN kiosk, so I randomly decided to have the guy check if 2-way was available in my area. I'd called RCN before and told them to send me a flyer, or give me a phone call when 2-way service was available, and I hadn't gotten any calls. But, to my surprise, he said 2-way service WAS available. He then tried to talk me down from the Mach 20 service, saying that Mach 10 was all I'd need. Hah!

I've only had one outage, and it was only for about 3 hours.

The 2mbps upload is generous, and though I don't do much uploading, it's nice having there for when I need it.

I pay $15/month extra for premium Usenet access, and the 20mbps download really shines. Downloading a 4.7GB DVD-ISO in under 40 minutes...I still get giddy over it. I don't know why RCN limits their own Usenet access to 15KB/s, but that's pretty atrocious. If I'm paying for 20mbps down, and I get 20mbps down all the time using my OWN premium Usenet access (which still comes through RCN's pipe), what's the difference?

I'm one happy customer, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.
