    Basic CM service, MACH 7.

Prior Chicago "growing pains" no longer seem to exist.

Where max speeds almost hit 7Mbps, now easily average 7.3+kbps.

7Mbps for $50/mo??? Scratch that.... modem rental went from $5 to $3. Service went from $45 to $42.

Heck, "turbo charged" dial-up runs you $20... GMAFB!!!!!!! heheh
****Update... well, "turbo" dial up still will run you the same.... Caveat emptor.

I note a wide range of quoted prices.... To be fair, I must add that in my condo, we get bulk, expanded basic cable for free from RCN...

***Update... RCN's a'la'carte plans are still IMO ill marketed and way overpriced. i might still have some bias there due to the bulk service....

***Final update.... Chicago's issues seem to be long gone... Latencies continue to be well below average and really can't be imporved upon IMO.

***Main complaint... I'm grandfathered into MACH 7 service tier. RCN had nuked that in favor of MACH5 and MACH10 BOTH with crippled 256 up! Bad marketing IMHO.

But MACH20 gets you 1Mbps up.

As a result, I will hang onto my MACH7 until they grab it from my dead, blue hands!

My suggestion... If you've got the ability to hang onto MACH 7, do so.

As a single, mainstream, $45 service with 7300 down, 760 up effective rates, try and beat it... (small, test, nich markets don't apply....)

P.S. Oh, to answer the "memory jog" questions:

    original speeds: 1500/300, $50
Install process flawless. Asked for extra coax, installer asked "how much?".
Equipment: 2GHz P4, PC800 RDRAM, No router, Win XP FW, ICS (NO ISSUES and bullet proof port scans so don't even TRY to flame!!!!)
Dynamic IP which in effect is static.

    Nuff said.
