I had been a customer of Rogers since the @home days. I have slowly watched their Internet service degrade little by little.
A time-line of events goes something like this:
- Automatic virus scanning of emails, you need to register at the yahoo! site to disable this for each email account. I found this feature to be quite obnoxious, because instead of getting a virus, which I have my system to quarantine the way I want it, I get an automatic delivery notification message, that is not quarantined.
- Move to voice attendant on their phone system. If you have ever called in, you'll know what I'm talking about.
- Hold times are terrible
- Automatic bulk message tagging... Another misguided feature. Re-writing my subject lines on my email is not acceptable. It makes my INBOX illegible, and there are too many false-positives to provide any real value. Use X-RogersThinksThisIsSpam headers or something, but don't make it so when I'm responding I end up with: Subject: [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] Re: [Bulk] My subject
- Silent decision to throttle traffic. This goes deep. There are a lot of implications to this, and if you don't already know about it, get informed. Long story short kids: YOU AREN'T GETTING WHAT YOU ARE PAYING FOR, and THIS PAVES THE WAY FOR FURTHER ABUSE
- Injecting HTML into your browsing sessions? Whose idea was that!?!
- Pricing is on the expensive side, for what you are getting.
- Big corporation Weasel qualities...
The throttling was the last straw, so I've switched to a cheaper, better, independent ISP, and I feel soooo much better.
