    My Other Reviews·Acanac Inc.
I used Rogers Hi-Speed from July of 2000 until April of 2007. In that time I had my differences with the company, but, they were always professional, gave credit when their service was interrupted, and answered tech questions in a truthful manner. If a CSR didn't know the answer, they usually passed me on to someone who did know.

On the tech side it's a extremely simple set. Plug in the modem. No screwing around with passwords and user name's.

I hate the fact that with DSL you are extremely limited by distance from any central office. Your speed suffers horribly. You can buy 5-10 mbps service, and get screwed over by receiving 1-2mbps service and there's little if anything you can do about it. It depends on the ISP and the whims of Bell, who ultimately everyone backbones off of. With cable you buy 7 mbps. You get 7 mbps service. I find DSL service unethical and misleading in the extreme.

Obviously, I'm slanted toward cable internet. It's the price that's outrageous for a service that's extremely (in most cases) throttled to the point of being useless for some client side services.

Back to using Rogers Hi-Speed for now. I can say that it is a hell of a lot faster than DSL, I get my mail every time, and the connection is stable without any unreported (excuse filled) outages (the cat ate the server. The janitor tripped over the UPS. Bell spilled coffee on the main Acanac server, sorry 'bout that).

I'll try 3Web in the fall. I just want to be on-line for now and get the summer out of the way.

    Updated speed

On August 22nd, I read on the Rogers forum that you can upgrade your speed from Hi-Speed to Express for no extra charge (for 6 months). 10mbs dl with a 95 g cap is an extremely generous deal so I switched. It's marginally faster, but I have less to worry about when dl/ul'ing so the switch was worth it. The torrents stay about the same, and ftp/http is a tad faster so you really don't notice the speed difference.
