For four years, Rogers provided very good service, with consistently good speeds and no latency whatsoever. Latency is an important measure for voice over IP service.
One day, however, my download speeds cratered. I don't like complaining for no reason, so I carefully studied the situation and learned that the degradation oonly occured from "afterschool" to "bedtime", and only on the download side. Upload speed remained perfect.
I logically concluded that my neighbourhood node was overcongested, which is rumoured to happen more often on cable than DSL. (note: it DOES happen on DSL too!). I tried to talk to tech support in a reasonable manner, but they outright denied there was any problems, even when I provided them with mounds of data.
In the end, it was the outright denial that made me cancel my Rogers service.
