My biggest complaints about Hughesnet.
1:NO SOFTWARE PROVIDED TO MONITOR UPLOAD OR DOWNLOAD AMOUNTS.
2:NO PAPER DOCUMENTATION.NO WARRANTY DOCUMENTATION.Online Documentation is out their on their site.
3:THE REBATE IS HIDDEN ON THEIR WEB PAGE SO YOU HAVE TO DIG TO FIND IT.As advertised $300 AFTER rebate ($400 before)...
4:I signed on with the HOME plan,16 hours later I FAPPED out,So I called for an upgrade to the Pro plan.They said sure no problem,3 weeks later still No PRO plan.Finally FAPPED again so I had to complain that they apparently did not want my money as they still had not upgraded me to the PRO plan.So I had to beg them to take my money?Weird.(Fapped means exceeding the Threshold Limit.)
5:People that answer the Hughes net telephone that have HEAVY NONE ENGLISH ACCENTS.I'm no biggot just hard hearing.
6:Free Installation,BS!I HAD to install my own pole, theirs was $75.00,and buy my own grounding rod they forgot to bring one..They wanted $89.00 to run wire under my trailer.I ran it myself and I'm disabled.To set the pole would have been $128.00+trenching,I had to run 100'ft of cable.It's $2.00 a ft for anything over 100'ft.My son and daughter helped me trench 45'ft 6"in deep to bury it.
Beware "Hidden" costs.
New Edit: Well its 6/29/09 NOTHING has changed.The service is terrible,the latency is not good,but thats just the Satellite Limitation and Physic's.I can depend on it to work right,as long as the weather is good and the FAP or threshold has not been reached.
All in all,Hughesnet has a slick system,its their service department that REALLY sucks.They still have no Dependable way of FAP monitoring.No software or nothing.
They do have the Usage page,but it is down or wrong most the time.EXAMPLE:I have seen missing hours and double posts on the usage page.

recently I decieded to go with hughesnet since we can't get high speed here. They lied to me from day one.I was told they would only put 350.00 on my acct. but when I checked they had put 417.00 on it. I was told I would get 150.oo rebate which turned out to be 100.00 Iwas told that after I Paid the350.00 there would be no more charges, but when the installer came out he wouldn't put it up until we paid him another 150.00 Theydidn't bother to tell me that after I looked at a few pictures I would get kicked off for 24 hours. I was told that if I didn't like the service and canceled with in 30 days I would get all my money back. when I canceled I only got 200.00 back. Stay away from hughesnet aaaaait is nothing but a scam
