TELUS provides great network stability unlike DOCSMS (Cable) connections. It provides fast upload speeds and okay download speeds for ADSL. TELUS however, lies frequently and restricts residential customers from hosting non-business servers. I say they lie because they claim these blocks on their network are for our security, but they provide most users (unless requested otherwise) with a router with a firewall and other features. They also provide virus care and software firewalls at NO extra charge (radialpoint software).

    Not uncommon

The vast majority of ISPs do not allow home-based servers. This is not a restriction unique to Telus but is also common to Shaw and other 'mainstream' service providers. I would think providing the router is more of a courtesy.

    Re: Not uncommon

However it is there reasoning - if they came straight out and said "We dont want you to host servers, thats why our blocks are in" it would be better. Shaw doesnt block ports, nor do other service providers (perhaps bell does, not sure) such as teksavvy etc.

    TELUS is a laggard

I'll have to strongly disagree with TELUS ADSL having fast download and upload speed. They are horribly slow in today's standards. TELUS should be offering 10+ Mbps long ago, but obviously waited until ADSL2+ technology is cheap enough for them to invest. Look for the CRTC to kick their ass very soon, although I don't trust the CRTC because they suck!

The rest of the world had 1.5 and 3 megabit service some 20 years ago. Telus's speed is near the very bottom in the entire world. Much slower than most third world isp's.

20 years ago we were using 1200 - 14400 bps modems depending on how lucky we were.

10 years ago most people still had dial-up.

I had access to 1 mbps service in 2000.
