I have had Charter for more than 10 years. Their customer service stinks and is getting worse. But almost all companies have lousy service between outsourced technical support to phone routing systems designed to discourage you from accessing service. I thought about switching to ATT U verse but what I have read online is that their service has issues that making switching undesirable. I have had broadband since the early days of it's implementation. I had 1mbs + speeds at home when my company was paying several hundred dollars a month for T-1 lines. Charter upgraded me to their 20mbs when it was available not mentioning that it was a introductory offer. I had 5Mbs at that time. Too be honest I couldn't see a difference. I checked speedtest and I was getting the full 20 MBs. After six months they started charging me over 40 + dollars for their Max speeds , after having my cable bill balloon in a year to over $240.00 I recently downgraded some of my services including returning to 5Mbs. I still can't tell the difference. I have several computers accessing the internet via my 54 Mb wireless connection and there is no discernible difference. I use e-mail, social sites, streaming audio, and streaming video from youtube. I am not an online gamer nor do I download large files from other sites. I am guessing 5 mb is more than enough bandwidth for 90% + of users. The one feature that keeps me with Charter is the ability to connect an external drive to my Moxi DVR. I have a 1 TB drive with over a hundred movies on it. I can also record HD movies and events without worrying I am going to lose existing recordings. I wish I could watch the recordings on my other TV's like U verse.
