Update: Lowered my Value for Money rating because of the new caps.
I've switched back and fourth between AT&T DSL and Charter over the past 10 years. Always ended up going back with DSL though as the speeds were comparable and it was incredibly reliable (no downtime for 2-3 years at a time, amazing). But Charter's new 16/2 tier swayed me - I figured it was worth giving up a little reliability for a lot more speed.
Recommendations when using Charter --- --- Avoid using Charter's DNS servers as they'll redirect to a heavily ad infested search engine every time you misspell an address (and break other network tools that rely on clean DNS lookups)
--- Bring your own cable modem, the Ambit they lease to you is worthless, pickup a $50 Motorola from walmart instead.
--- Dedicated line to the modem, separate from TV
--- Be aware they do block outgoing ports to prevent people from hosting servers (ports 21, 80 and I'm sure more)
--- If there's competition in the area, say AT&T Uverse, Charter will give a huge discount to compete for your dollar.
