I'm writing this on behalf of a home whose communications services I manage.
The home is in a somewhat high-class area, but Charter is the only terrestrial broadband option. DSL is not a choice.
The family has subscribed to Charter since the cable Internet service was initially rolled out in the area (Opelousas, LA) and has recently acquired the 5Mbit service.
The modem is a SurfBoard 4100 and it's connected to a Linksys WRT54G serving eight computers.
The connection always speedtests at above 4Mbit, but it will randomly drop out for minutes at a time.
Charter has been to the location and cannot figure out the problem.
Since DSL is not an option and the speeds of Charter are relatively consistent, I would have to rate them excellent.
