    August 1, 2007:

Called and canceled my service with Charter. After my 6 month promo, my price was going up to 55 dollars a month (before taxes and "fees"). I like DSL better from a technological standpoint anyway (its the difference between a hub and a switch). We're moving to a new house anyway, and I really didn't want to pay another activation fee (my fee with Windstream DSL was waived).

I am convinced that Cable is a racket. It's overpriced and over-subscribed in most areas (at least in my area).

    May 2007:

Just experienced my first little dirty trick with Charter. It turns out that they are charging me an extra 10 dollars a month for my internet package, because I didn't also get their TV service. Now I remember why I hated Comcast, because they did the same thing to me. Normally this wouldn't upset me, but in no place that I signed up, was this 10 dollars a month extra mentioned. I've reviewed my confirmation order (which lists my package price) and nada, nothing there about it. I fired up the old CSR chat from Charter.com and chatted with an agent, who simply said "I'm sorry about that. Is there anything else I can help you with?". I truly didn't expect her to be able to do anything, because that is their policy, but it would have been nice if they told me up front about it.

    April 2007:

I Ordered the 3 Megabit package for 19.99 for 6 months. It was installed the next day. I have not really been a fan of cable because my last cable internet provider was Comcast in Nashville. So far Charter has been better. I'm running 3 computers and VoIP on my line.

I do like Charter because they don't lock you in to a long-term contract. Considering my only other choice was BellSouth (whom I swore off 2+ years ago), I chose to give Cable one more try. If the service is good, I may get a faster package, but for now the 3 Mb package is plenty.
