I decided to drop my Speakeasy DSL and switch to Comcast mostly because the max speed I could get from Speakeasy was 800/300k mostly due to the distance from the phone CO, also it required repeated rebooting of the modem to reconnect. Comcast promised 6 meg by 1meg and actually delivered >12 meg by 5 meg. The cost is also less than my old provider.
However the first modem I got went bad after a couple weeks. I knew it was the modem as There was only one light on it. The tech however insisted that we go through all of their scripted tests. (I am a former network admin and drive a mainframe now, I think I can troubleshoot a modem.) I gave up and called back the next day and finally got someone who knew what was wrong and would send out a new modem. - Yeah - two hours on the phone for a five minute fix.
I also got cable tv installed and it has worked very well, despite their deceptive advertisements claiming they have "more HDTV" - not saying that each "channel" now "choice" includes individual on-demand programs.

Update - several months later.
Once I got well past the first level i.10ts, I was able to get things fixed. Since last October Comcast has added many HDTV channels. I was still having problems not getting the speed on my cable modem but finally got a level 3 tech who said if another modem replacement doesn't work then he will have a tech sent out later that day.The new line tech measured all the signals and found that the splitters some of the lines were corroded and old (yea - they were installed in the 70's.) He said they should have replaced them when they first activated the service. So he replaced them and everything started to work properly. Cable modem and digital tv.
Still, I have no choice due to terrain blocking any hope of satellite.
