We have had Comcast in our office for years (formerly Adelphia). The office is served by a T1 line for a number of computers that we do not own, and a Comcast HSI business account for the computers that we own.

The installation was a painful process involving several re-schedules, but it was Adelphia's install so was in no way indicative of Comcast's methods. The same can be said for the luke-warm pre-sales information. The price, however, was, and remains reasonable, and we still have the original Motorola modem and it is working fine.

We have had little downtime with either Adelphia or Comcast. On the unusual occasion that there is a need to call Comcast, I generally get a less-than-informed individual who makes it clear that they think that I am an idiot and should not bother them. I have learned that the best solution to this is to simply politely thank them, and call back. On the fourth or fifth call, I will get someone pleasant, who is willing to help, and will get things on the right track.

The technicians are another deal altogether. They are competent at their jobs, they know the equipment and the network, but they can't seem to understand that businesses are generally open between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. It is frustrating to be told that a tech will be there within that time frame to have them fail to show, and then get an irate message from Comcast wondering where everyone was. In the case of most offices, employees are not paid overtime to hang around to see if Comcast might show up an hour after the office closes. A call to the "800 people" will get you the response that they will be there within the next ten minutes... then they often fail to show again.

    So:

    1. Comcast is reliable. Your connection will rarely go down.

    2. The price for a business package is reasonable and fair.

    3. The modem is just fine- whether you rent or buy, the model Comcast (then Adelphia) provided is good.

    4. The techs are good but do not show up when the "800 people" schedule them to, or during regular business hours.

    5. The "800 people" tend to be rude and difficult to deal with, and it takes several calls to get someone helpful.
