My area (Mendocino County, Northern California) was one of many areas that was transitioned from Adelphia to Comcast earlier this year. There were a few little glitches, and a slowdown for a few weeks, but overall the transition went well.
We have the 8000/768 Performance Plus Tier with Comcast, and with up and down Powerboost we see a steady 15000-21000 down and 1500-2500 up, with very low latency and no down time. Comcast is upgrading our area, both HSI and Cable, so more good stuff is on the way soon
As for our modem, we're using one we bought ourselves at Wal-Mart, a Motorola SB 5101.
Update-Well, as of 6-17-09 we now have Blast! In our area. It didn't get to my modem at first, but ComcastSteve took care of that, and I'm now getting Blast! 16/2, woo hoo! Comcast is doing fine by me.
