I wish I could like Comcast service, but they make it very difficult to do so. The start of the service was a bellweather for what was to come, I think. I bought my modem and self-install kit, but the Comcast system was unable to set up my service because of technical problems on their end. It was 5 days before their system would allow a new account to have access. Then I began being billed for modem rental, even though I purchased the modem myself. I took my receipt to their office for 6 consecutive months to prove that the modem was my own property and not being rented, but they still continued to bill me a rental fee. When I didn't pay the rental fee they said my account was past due and added a derogatory remark on my credit report. I finally got them to stop billing me for my own modem, but they say they cannot remove the remark from my credit report. Service has been spotty, for over 2 weeks back before Christmas 2006 my speeds were less than dialup modem speed. The problem was with the node serving my account, but the technician said that the only people authorized to make the repairs were on vacation until after the first of the year. So I had sub-dialup speed for over 2 weeks with no recourse. Because they claimed my service was active (it was up but just painfully unusable for anything) I was not eligible for any credit.
Because I do not have a POTS line, I cannot obtain DSL, so Comcast is my only source for broadband internet, unfortunately.
