There was another option for DSL but I wanted to test out how Comcast was in Downtown Minneapolis, and it's amazing!
I'm currently on a special condo package that gets me 20 mb/s (Yes, I get advertised speeds to local test servers but around 10-15 mb/s for Chicago) internet and HD DVR cable for only around $47 a month with $57 covered in our association fees for our condo.
I called our special rep for our condo and he got a pretty good deal for us. I called in on a Monday and they arrived on a Wednesday and the install took about 45 minutes due to some issues I had from moving from Comcast IL. I had my own cable modem that I wanted to use but they didn't release my modem from their servers yet so Comcast MN could not use it yet. Also, I was using my own email address to sign into the Comcast bill pay page but the new system that they are implementing currently screwed with all of that and my old account is not linked to here in MN so I was forced to create a new email account that I would never use. This was the main issue with this whole experience so it's pretty good from I've had to deal with in the past.
The Cable Box is an HD DVR box by Scientific Atlanta and I have to say it's not as good as the HD DVR box I had in IL. I don't remember the brand, but the guide, menus, response time, and DVR menus (pretty much everything) was better than this SA brand.
Hopefully, at some point, we can switch back to that HD DVR we had in IL and I can use my own modem (that I was forced to buy in IL) soon.
Old Comcast Review from Eden Prairie:
There are no other options, Earthlink is gone in Eden Prairie. Roadrunner was amazing, and it started to get bad around August of 2006, which was around the transition time to Comcast, then everything went downhill.
The speeds were supposed to be 6000/384 with powerboost to 10000. Never once saw 4000, speeds were always 3000/2000. Very strange.
Not much install process other than then coming and taking our old modem, and that's also when it seemed to go downhill.
They gave us what seems to be a generic or Motorola modem to replace our nice Sharkfin modem.
I had them come out about 3 times to try and figure out why our speeds suck. The answers I always got were that no one knew what they were doing basically, and that nothing could be done, and you just had to wait for server upgrades. It all really seemed stupid to me.
