Well after having Comcast HSI for a year at my new house, I decided to finally write a review and have had a long time to see how the new connection works. Plus being somewhat lazy lately didn't help neither. :P

I moved from Lancaster Pa to Mount Joy Pa. My choices for broadband were Comcast HSI or Sprint DSL. From having family members in the area, going the Sprint DSL route, I knew I didn't want to sign up with them. Latency and speeds are erratic with Sprint. I chose Comcast(6/384).

I was a long time Verizon DSL customer (5 1/2 years) and actually was the first in the county that had it from them. I beta tested it prior to launch so I was very familiar with how it worked. I once tried Comcast HSI when they had the free for 3 months deal going on, but I chose the wrong time to do so. Comcast had just bought out @home and there were issues everywhere. I had a very bad trial run so to speak. It always tainted my view of them. But when I moved I knew Sprint was worse in my new area.

From October 2005, till the middle of August 2006, my service was rock solid. Never once did I ever have to call tech support for anything. Then I was plagued by the "every 20 minutes my connection would drop" bug. I was going mad trying to figure out what was doing this. I tried an old modem a family member had and no go. Same issues. I replaced all the cat 5 cables and nic cards on my network. Nope. Still dropping. Only have one splitter about 8 feet away from my desk through the wall outside. I do not use Comcast for television(Directv) so I had them run a line for cable and tv during the install. Splitter looked fine.

I finally had to call them and explained the issues I was having. They said they should probably send someone out. We set up an appointment. The tech never came or called. Next day I called and we set-up another appointment and I was given a $20 credit for the missed tech(which I still never recieved). The second tech came out and looked around at the drop across the street then back to my house. Everything looked fine so we went to my pc. He said it looked good aswell.

Tech then told me it was something up the line and he would have to escalate it.

A couple of days went by and problem persisted so I called and waited for close to an hour to talk to someone. They said the tech never escalated the ticket so we scheduled another truck roll. The second tech came out and his jaw dropped. He said "Why didn't the first guy fix this? Your signal levels were like 18 for your snr."

He replaced the tap from the pole across the street and ran new line to my house. The tap was full of water. He told me "Guys like that give us a bad rep. He was just too lazy and didn't escalate it because they would have came back and found out he didn't do his job." The first tech actually was a senior tech btw.

Aside from that issue that lasted a few weeks, Comcast offers a good service in Mt. Joy Pa. My pings are actually lower than my Verizon DSL had. No evening slowdowns either. I always get more than my alotted 6000 download and powerboost makes it all the more great. I usually tested 6200/362 on my speed tests prior to powerboost. No issues with email in the year since I had them.

Overall, I am pleased with the service and would recommend it to anyone. I wish Comcast would raise their standard tier upload speed to something higher than 384. MORE UPLOAD PLEASE!!! Maybe even bump the speeds up to compete with other national cable providers. Not just in FIOS markets. I have had the same ip for the entire year. I know the 8/768 package is only $10 more but 6 is fine for my needs. I'm cheap.
