My Other Reviews·WOW Internet and C..
I have the 8 mbps cable service and it's fast. Installation was simple because I was switching over from WOW cable. All the tech had to do was change the wiring on the box outside the house and replace the WOW cable boxes with Comcast ones.

The only inconvenience there was that the Motorola boxes from CC don't have S-Video like the SA ones from WOW. So, I had to do a little bit of rewiring.

The TV and Internet service has been flawless. No outages and the picture is as clear as a bell. The HSI speeds are out of this world compared to WOW. Which is the reason I switched.

WOW was unable to provide me full speeds because they don't fully support bring your own modem people who have Motorola (among others) modems. I have an SB5100 and couldn't get faster than 4 mbps. Apparently WOW has not been able to obtain the right config files. I switched to Comcast and bang, the faster speeds were no problem.

In about 8-9 months, my intro rates will expire and the prices will shoot up. I'm hoping that I can stomach that steep rise. If not, I'm hoping WOW will have gotten off their collective hind ends and enabled faster speeds for the Motorola owners out there.

    Edit:

So, I'm still with Comcast, but I have their digital service with DVR (last 6 months). It's really been pretty flawless over these past two years. I don't think I need more than a single finger to count the number of outages that I've had.

Comcast has also been pretty easy to deal with on the payment front as well. They've cheerfully given me discounts to keep up with WOW pricing. So, I've gotten great customer service as well. I'll be calling soo to get more discounts, since mine are starting to fall off again.

5/14/2009 Update I left Comcast about a 15 months or so ago and went to WOW cable. Well, I have come back to Comcast on their Locked and Loaded promo. You get Digital starter, free HBO, free HD-DVR for 6months ($9.95 thereafter), unlimited phone and a $200 rebate. All that for $99/month (+$3 modem/EMTA rental fee) and a 1 yar commitment. I upgraded the internet to 50/10 for an additional $50/month. I also specifically requested the DCX3400.

Signup - Went pretty easily. The first CSR (out of Louisiana) had a hard time adding the 50/10 service and never did get it going correctly. She kept saying that the internet added no extra cost and that there was no equipment rental fee. But, when she tried to enter that into the system, it wouldn't take (duh). Called later and got a CSR in some other state who was able to set me up perfectly.

Installation - Pretty uneventful. I got the self install for modem and HSI. The installer didn't have to do much. He tested the line and then terminated the cable and hooked it into the cable box on the outside of the house. We went inside the house and pulled the WOW box out and put the Mot DCX3400 in. It all fired up without incident. The installer was surprised that I got that box, since he said he'd only gotten only one or two out of the dozens of installs he'd done recently. So, at least CC listened to my request.

The installer was about 15 minutes early. Very nice man with an eastern European accent. I can't remember what country he mentioned. He was considerate of our house and put booties on before coming in. He didn't act rushed and answered all my questions without any problem.

As he was leaving, he saw our piano and asked if anybody played. I mentioned that no one really did, so he spent half an hour or so playing piano for us. It was actually quite enjoyable and impressive.

I hooked up my own phone and modem. I received an Arris for the voice calls and a Cisco xxx3000 for Docsis 3.0. Both worked fine after I had them activated. Took two calls, but it wasn't a big deal.

WOW was a laggard in releasing the line though. I was able to make outbound calls no problem using Comcast. But, inbound call were still routing through WOW. I gave Comcast a call and they had the problem fixed in a day (I saw a WOW person come by sometime the next morning)

Conclusion - Good experience all around. Certainly no worse than WOW, and a little better even, given the problem with the phone port.
